Left Murrels Inlet, SC at 6:05am to find not seas at the NOAA predicted 1 - 2 feet, but a confused sea rolling 3ish footers from the south and chopping @ 2 feet from the Northeast. Needless to say, there was no rhythm in 40ish mile trip out to 100' live bottom. Once we reached the marked spot, dropped anchor only to find it pulled us 500+ feet from the mark before it caught. Thinking I needed to pull the hook and re-try hooking on the spot, I took a quick glance at the bottom machine to find bait thick from 100 - 80 feet and scattered fish above and below.
Did 2 drops, pulled the hook and headed for the hill. 3 decent grouper and 3 medium hogs in the cooler. Spot was perfect lobster habitat, but not a single one was around. This spot will be re-visited, as there were at least 6 gags in the 50+ pound range that would not allow me to kill them...
Seas calmed to a steady 2', allowing for a nice & peaceful ride in.
