Good deal, maybe the lake will be clearer that time of year.

we dove last year on labor day and it was alot clearer than during the marathon. so it could be a better deal. But I guess we will be down there diving anyway just to see what it would have been like.

It starts to clear out at 65' but bring a big light.
I heard that Gene is moving off the water to just outside Strayhorn turnoff. Has anybody been by lately? He ended up buying our old boat and it still rocks!

Last year was my first, we were skunked...
We were not able to go out at night because of a faulty bow light and during the day we did not find any vis. Not knowing the lake does not help either...

We usually head up river and it was real murky. We still got several but not near as good as usual. This year with less rain in the summer should be alot better. I haven't got to go by Gene's place this year we are going up next week though for several days. He's one cool cat, always helpful!!

Hey Prater if you get to go some time this year take some pig pellets. Usually at least 12% protein and try it at different depths. Drop about a gallon of pellets on your spot and mark it and wait around 45 min to an hour before you dive it and see whats hanging around your bait. We usually go anywhere from 10 to 20 feet when we bait. Try it out and see if it will help. at least with the junk fish part of the marathon.

I used to bait at the thermocline. Used meat scraps in big onion bags. Sunk with concrete blocks.

Make sure to bring some ice chests full of filets back. I hear that there is a fish fry at your house when you get back.

Maybe he can make a stop in Cuba for some cigars and stop in Mexico for cactus juice too!
Wake me up when the fish are ready.

Sorry guys, as a catfish diver I suck. The good news is the visibility would have been really good for the marathon if it would've happened. We did do a little baiting xperimenting with some different spots, and did shoot some decent buffalo, But didn't get anything good enough for the big fish fry. Like I said we don't really know where to look for the catfish. The few holes we did know of were empty. But the vis like I said was better than usual for this time of year. Some places even up to 10' so that is really good for this time of year.

Well Mark my dive did not get a hold on...the VIS was less than two feet and with all the bull sharks around we called of the dive a few minutes after it started. Maybe next time. Now looks like I will be home the second week of August. Had to reschedule because of the damage.
