Hi all,
I am going on holidays (Augoust) to Costa Rica and Panama, both pacific and caribeann coasts. Does anyone know places to hunt there? License required? Any information?
If someone is planning going there too, I would be very glad to join him for spearfishing.

Going to CR myself first week in December. Please let me know what you come up with. I have done quite a bit of research, and the bottom line seems to be, find a fishing charter, and ask them if they will take you spearfishing. Please keep me posted. I plan on taking a day or two to spear along the Souther Pacific coast towards Panama. GOOD LUCK!
The only diving/spearing on the carribean coast of those countries is in The Bocas del Toro region of panama; and may be dificult to arrange.
Send me a PM if interested in diving here; ill hook you up with the details.

im getting into spearing to pass flat days and rest my muscles while surfing in costa and panama. the places that ive have surfed there have been so many fish around... i was chillin in my hammock one day watching the locals kids throw hands lines of the rocks on low tide.. this little tiny frail old lady comes up and starts fishing... fishing equipment consists of.... piece of wood with about twenty yards of heavy mono wrapped around it and some old ass looking lure... i dozed off a little while later im woken up by some commotion near the water. opoen my eyes give them a rub.. here comes the old lady with a rooster fish bigger than her chest.. it was big enough that i wouldn't have believed her scrawny ass caught it herself on a hand line unless i saw it myself.. i had never seen one before so i was damn impressed... the moral of my story is that i think you can rent a car drive around get in the water where you think it looks good and find fish no problem.. the local fisherman with there little wooden boats will drive you around places for dollars.. we would have them taxi us out ot an outer reef to surf so we didnt have to paddle the 2k or so to get out there.. fish every where... i stayed with a guy in jaco that ran a small hotel and speared fish for the local restaraunts i asked him where he goes to fish. he jsut pointed to both ends of jaco bay where the rocks start and the beach ends..
