Ebay. I have seen the Aeris 300G go fairly cheap.

Rusty helped out a couple of months ago with my Air integrated Nitrox Oceanic. Brand new for $350 or so on EBAY. I love that thing.

I don't know what you are looking for but definitely get an air-integrated Nitrox computer. I like the fact that it keeps track of your air and alerts you when you get low on air. While spearfishing it is easy to let the time fly by as you are slaying fish one after another and then suddenly your realize you can't suck another breath out of your tank because you accidentially let it go empty on the bottom. No doubt in my mind that the Air integration is definitely worth the extra $100.

I have a hoseless A.I. computer and occassionally for about 15 seconds or so it loses it's signal from the transmitter but I have never had a loss of signal for longer of that (yet). Whenever it loses signal, my computer (the receiver) beeps informing me that I don't have pressure information. I am not so comfortable with that and I am not sure if having one less hose to worry about is worth that concern.

Like everything in this world you need to have a back up. An analog SPG's needle can stick just as easily as a hoseless computer can crap out on you. If you do get a hoseless, make sure you keep a back up (analog spg or another computer) on the boat in case your stuff goes tits-up on you so you don't ruin a whole trip on the first dive. My .02 cents

This is my next computer.

I still can't bring myself to get a hoseless. After seeing Hector and Scott lose the data connection while topside I decided that an extra hose is worth the piece of mind. One less thing to worry about.

Looking for an air/nitrox computer.

Hector, are you serious! You were able to get an air integrated for $350? Are they still available? I'm gonna PM you on this one.

Should I be paying any attention to certain brands? Or should I just look for the features I want/need and then just go for the brand that has the cheapest with these features?

Man, asking about the best brand is like asking which college is better: Florida or Florida State. Everyone will have an opinion, bettern choices will be omitted, and everyone is guarenteed to be biased.

I've lost my signal but still wouldn't dive without my Suunto Vytec. It was an isolated problem, Suunto sent me a new transmitter, and being able to glance at info like you would a watch can't be beat. I also have the Cobra AI as a back-up.

Scott is right. We've been around this block many times before. No, all dive computers are not alike even if they have the same features.

Different computer manufacturers use different algorithms to calculate allowable dive time. Uwatec and Suunto are among the most conservative. Oceanic is among the most liberal. This is not in dispute.

I'm not saying that you should always dive the limits of your computer, but personally I'd rather have a computer that allows me to dive more conservatively (if I choose to) than a computer that insists that I do so under penalty of lockout. You should choose the computer that is right for you.

I don't know if you've already seen it, but various Nitrox computers were reviewed side by side in the Jan/Feb 2003 issue of Rodale's Scuba Diving. The article includes a "Freedom vs. Risk" chart that compares the conservatism of the various manufacturers. There is a similar chart that was done in 2000 at http://scubadiving.com/gear/022003computers/

Bottom line is that you have to choose what is best for you how you dive. It is your life and body that are at risk when you dive.

Try this place, I got most of my dive gear from them very easy to work with, great warranty policy too. they will exchange most things that break. they match mfg. warranty.

Sherwood just introduced a new computer called the Wisdom. It looks really user freindly, the display is huge, and I have heard alot of good things about it. I have the Suunto Cobra, and its really nice too. It sells pretty cheap(compared to lds) on LeisurePro. I know that they are even cheaper on ebay, but not that much cheaper, and LeisurePro honors the manufacturers warrenty, which you won't get from ebay.

If I bought a computer from leisure pro, couldn't I just take it to the local dealer for any warranty issues?

NO, you will have to send it back to LP. you get no mfg warr. do to there price fixing policies. and contracts of over the counter sales.

Faust, I really appreciate the offer, but I haven't been able to find a lot of info on the Nitek's nor have I been able to locate a local dealer. Plus, I've narrowed it down to an Oceanic and an Aeris. Thanks anyways.

oceanic, sherwood, aires, genesis......they are all the same computer with different colors and layouts, they use the same algorithm and are made at the same factory..

John, why are you arguing with these Nolies? Haven't you heard the saying,"Don't argue with idiots, they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience."?

This is a well known phenomenon called the "Genesis Effect".

Might want to try the OMS EANx wrist mount computer (not air integrated), same as the dive rite Nitec (sp?), just a different cover. By the way www.diversdirect.com will match any prices (including LP and greymarket) and are authorized for everything they sell).

Their price is $299.00, but if you call them they will match LP's price of $199.95, so for under $200 you get a new, warrantied nitrox computer.

By the way, I have one (purchased as mentioned above) as my primary computer and love it.

FYI - Leisure Pro has agents the sell on ebay - LP email and delivered in LP return address---- if they are a "powerseller" on ebay with thousands of transactions it is likely someone from LP.

I was thinking about buying my cobra on ebay. I found a seller selling a cobra, and I went to his site (thats how I found out about leisurepro). His starting price on the auction was $10 higher than his selling price on leisurepro! Don't know if they do this all the time.

Yea, they do it all the time. And some people even buy it at auction for the higher price.
