Well we headed out of clearwater pass to what was calling for 1 to 2 footers, but once we got a few miles offshore I could tell that the weather man was smoking somthing other than cigarettes... We had a solid 2 to 3 footers until about noon, and then it slicked right off... We made 4 dives in 65 foot of water, and ended up with some nice fish.. I got a real nice 5 pound Mango, and 3 keepers Groupers spearing.. Also limit out on some real nice hogs up to 21 inches long.. Coy king ended up with a Nice 7 pound gag grouper, and several Nice hogs also.. The vis was right at 40 foot!!!! Very Nice, and still warm.. Now something happened to me that has not ever happened while I was diving.. Let me give you a back ground of my diving career.. I started diving in 1983, and have been diving everyweek end since that (weather permitting).. I have over 2000 dives in, and what I seen today was the Best expreience that ever happened to me.. I was coming up the anchor rope on my third dive and was on my safety stop at about 15 foot when I kept hearing some High pitch sounds.. I did not see anything, so I turned around and there right in front of me was a Hugh Dolphin!!! He was standing on his head and looking at my stringer of fish.. I mean less then a foot away from the fish!!! I was amazed, and could not resist taking a nice hog fish off my stringer and see if he would take it out of my hand.. Guess what.. He took it "right out of my hand"!!! then he looked right back at my stringer again for more.. But I knew He would eat all I would give him so I just stood there and he stayed upside down on his head looking at my for about another 2 or 3 minutes before he slowly swam away!!! What an experience for sure... I told my wife about and she sure wanted to be there, but could not make it today.. We have always wanted for this to happen, but the dolphin seem to take off once your in the water.. this one came to check me out, and I did the same with him... I put my hand out and he almost pushed it with his nose, but backed off about 3 inches from my hand... Oh well maybe another day this will happen again, and I hope my wife is there to experience it... Over all we ended up with about 60 pounds of fish.. not bad for clearwater diving I guess... Here are some pics from today.., enjoy.. Capt. Jay.. p.s. sounds like I am not the only one to hand feed a dolphin today.. that is great someone else got to experience that..

funny. Great report. Dolphin are cool. I used to feed them coming back from offshore when I was a kid in Destin. They're all over the east pass. One time my buddy's dog jumped in the water and the dolphin kept pokin at her and stuff. Freaked her out. That dog never got by the water again. Anyway great report.

we got to the ramp about 6:45. My boat is nameless, I've only had it about 5 or 6 months. It's a 1986 Bayliner 19' CC white with blue stripes w/ a 1975 Evinrude 85. It's got a couple dive flag stickers on it, one says "I love sharks"!!! Old but effective!!!:D

Capt. Jay,

I had a similar experience off of Tarpon springs Saturday around 11am. This dolphin hung around me during my safety stop. We stayed eye-to-eye 2 feet apart the whole time. I did have a decent stringer of fish. If I turned around, he would swim around in front of me like a puppy at the dinner table. After I got my gear off, I hopped overboard and he approached for the hand feeding. I tried to get him to pose on the surface, but he was only interested in a free hogfish. Very cool experience.

Dan.. It might have been the same dolphin.. I was in 65 feet of water and was right at 21 miles out of tarpon springs on ledges... would'nt that be something if it was the same dolphin.. Im sure that this dolphin has seen divers before and got a free hand out.. Its what he wanted from me, and I repsonded without a problem.. Capt. Jay.. p.s. We need to get out together to sling some stainless... soon.. before the water gets bone chilling..

The stomach is coming out because lots of hogs do that when you bring them up from the pressure change.. the eyes are hanging out because that is where I string them up, through the eyes.. trust me, this is not a photo chop.. I would try to make it look bigger than that..It weighed 5.9 pounds on my digital scale... My fingers are on the back side in the gills, that is why you cant see them... Capt. JaY

Hell Reef Raider, I would have thought that after spending three days in the Middle Grounds with ya it might of occured to you that this was in jest.Cap.Jay I will also apologize to you if you really thought I was serious. I never considered how screwed up the bull shit on the FS forum might have made our thinking.I attempted to make a play on a thread that ripped D4B for a photo of a hog he placed on the FS forum. I promise to never again try to interject humor on this board again. Signed Genesis II.

YO REEF RAIDER, Your Chicago colors are shining bright. Just because we can doesn't mean you have to abuse your ****ing privilege. I'll by you a drink next Wednesday.

Capt. Jay, You know these guys are jerking your chain. I know that was the same flipper. He had a small notch on the lower end of his dorsal fin. We were diving in the same area.

Show these photo shop guys you care by extending your virtual middle finger in a "you da man" salute.

I'm sure I'll be diving in the cold stuff all winter. I'm sure we'll have a chance to sling soon.

I've got a technical Nitrox class coming up if anyone is interested. James at Depth perception is teaching it and we are shooting for some time in December. Two classroom nights and two days of diving deep sinks (4 dives total).
