When does the season end?

Hey guys, I am new to this site so forgive me if this is a topic that is old. I spear with either a Mares Cyrano 700 or a JBL 20 explorer double band around the Woods Hole and Elizabeth Islands area, mainly for Tautog. The past few years I usually would dive till mid-Sept. for a number of reasons but this year I hope to be diving through Oct. and maybe later. How late into the year do most of you north east divers go till? Is it worth diving into November? I wear a 5mm suit so the cold isn't a big deal. Any input would be great.

As for Tog - no the season doesn't close- for non comercial spearfishing though when the temp drops they head for warmer water where the eating is good. We then wait untill spring to hunt.

Once the H2O drops under 50 there isn't much to hunt. Its hard to put a time table on when that happens.

I would say thru October. Went last year on November 17.... good visibility but no fish

Thanks for the input guys. I guess I'll just keep going a long as I'm having fun. Just hate this time of year when the number of good diving days begins to dwindle.

Back in the day (15years ago) I shot a lot of Tautog in the winter time at Ft Wetheral. We would find big fish down deep 80 - 100' in the rocks. My dive buddy even got two at a time with one shot. The fish we were getting were around 7 to 10 pounds and they were on the deep back side of that little island in-between the two coves. Damn that water was cold then. Wish I had a drysuit then. We brought lots and lots of hot water with us to dump in the wet suits before and after the dive. I think that's the only thing that kept us alive. :eek:
