is there anyone on this board from Socal? fishing Palos Verdes for White Sea Bass? I went last week, wednesday, no white sea bass but lots and lots of bait in the water. vis was pretty good. i managed a nice calico on the way back in for dinner. i went the folowing day, thursday, at dawn and waited till noon for the swell to decrease so i could make a safe entry but no such luck... headed home. hopefully this thursday i will have better luck. i bumped into a couple guys that have been seeing and getting some nice sized fish. i will try to get pictures. until then... stay safe.

I've been out a few times now in La Jolla but no luck. The yak fishermen have been roping whites and yellows, but I have yet to see any. Good luck.

Hi Rick,

I went out in la jolla yesterday, same deal-tons of bait, I saw a guy land a 20 some pound white, the day before a friend of mine shot a 40 pounder. They are around. The vis was about ten to fifteen feet, and the water is warming up a little. Though I didn't see one either.

hey guys, i have heard that yellows and whites have been taken regularly from lajolla, some of the guys that i float tube fish with have been out there with their kayaks... they have doing well (30-40lbrs!!).. but i haven't heard of anyone spearing. do you have a boat or yak that you head out to the kelp in? i am looking for spearos to hook up with to try new places/make new friends, etc.

i am getting a kayak (fish n dive from malibu kayaks) in a month or so. i am also waiting for jay riffe to get the new "pressurized foam" front wing kits for the metal techs. i am getting a MT5 with the new front kit as soon as they are ready to go. smaller, more bouyant and much less expensive then the teak ones!!!!!

lemmie know if you guys want to hook up for some spearin.

Just got back today from the La Jolla shores. Just went freediving with some buddies. Saw a big ass black seabass probably around 60-70 lbs. pretty sick!

I'm a newbie looking for halibut in PV. So far no luck. Would any be willing to share some info?

I've been trying M****a and H********s... and, I've been bumping into rays and guitar sharks but, no halibut.

I've been loooking in sandy patches between rocks and where the reef fades our into sand, in depths 15~20ft. I admit that I'm not covering very much ground because I'm moving relatively slowly, to look carefully in the ground that I actually do cover.

Should I try going a little deeper (to 30 ft)? Do I need to start covering more ground when I dive? Also, how does surge, water temp, visibiltiy factor into encountering halibut in PV? The vis around PV has been pretty bad during the last few weeks ...does this matter?

all the butts that i have seen and heard taken in PV have been in pretty shallow. 0-15 feet. the guys taking the halibut were initailly looking for WSB in the shallows and just happened upon the butts. I have been in PV a few times....between the "pipes" and i have yet to see a butt.... they are in there though. just keeping checking the isolated sand spots and i am sure you will see one soon. I have relocated my fishing efforts to La Jolla. The vis is MUCH better and i have already seen B I G fish there. I missed a 40lbr a couple of weeks ago and managed a nice 17lbr last week. maybe you should give La Jolla a try, plus you may even see some Yellowtail. hope this helps.
