Those of you who attended the DEMA show have seen it. For those who haven't, here is pretty good DEMA coverage:

Looks great........and it does look like a Garmin. Looks easy to get the information you need out of it too......I like that scroll screen.
In the listing it says
Arrival at decompression stop starts a countdown stopwatch showing time remaining at the stop.
One question.......when a diver goes into a non-planned deco dive, does the Cobalt tell the diver what the total req'd deco time is (including all required stops and safety stop) or will it just give the diver the ceiling depth for the first stop and then start the countdown once he arrives in the "deco window"??
Any idea when it's going to be made available?

this might be a stupid question but I am going to ask anyway. Right now I have a Smart Com with a quick disconnect is there any chance this computer could have the same disconnect so I could switch between them. That or possibly come in a wrist model.

If it uses the same logic sequence that a Garmin uses, that would be a BIG plus. I have always thought that Garmin made the most user friendly GPS's.

MSRP is looking to be $899.
We are doing our best to have it by May '06.
Garmin didn't have anything to do with the case design, as far as I know...I will ask the guy who designed it next time I talk to him!!!
Not sure about the quick disconect yet...
I am pretty excited about this one...it is gonna be good!!! ;)

It's not the case that looks like a Garmin, it's the display.

Yeah, I was gonna say the same thing, the LED display layout, font, everything, looks exactly like a Garmin.

Isn't Garmin based in Ireland? Unless Zeagle is hiring foreign people to make software, I doubt it.

A few years ago I went to Seattle with Jim Wittstruck, Zeagle's National Sales manager, to work a big dive store sale.
I had my new Garmin GPS Map 76 with me and showed it to the Cobalt developers. They were very impressed with the screen quality and intuitive menus of the GPS. They bought the 76S which had just come out, and soon found the same quality screens for the dive computer.
I had already pulled a gag on some of my Zeagle dealers using my GPS as a "Cobalt prototype." I posted it here too, but got busted immediately.
The Cobalt has come a long way but still has a long way to go. Hopefully everything will work out for spring of 2006.
From what I know from operating them, the computer gives you the complete ascent time, and a count down deco stop at the deepest ceiling, then it switches to the next stop, etc.
The computer has trimix capability but it is not yet activated. With a pixel based screen and a large chip, the computer will have few boundaries. But it will take time and knowledge to implement everything properly.
The next step is making it water-tight.

How would the testing period for this computer compare to the testing period of a new model Zeagle regulator?
I'm not bashing anyone or any company , but it seems with the incredible advances in technology, a company would want to get something like this out on the market ASAP before their competition introduces something new, better and faster.
Or is there a lack of test platforms, thus increasing the time needed to test every possible scenario?

Rich,
I am sure there is a lot more testing done on a computer than a piece of hardware like a regulator.
I have never been a fan of companies rushing products like dive computers to the market, I know people get anxious for the latest and greatest product, but a little patience won't kill you, where a product like a computer that is rushed to market before adequate testing is done could.
I am sure that Zeagle will not lose market share due to thorough testing of their products.

Scott,
When a product isn't making schedule do one of the following:
- Thank everyone for the concern and apologize for the delay. Brush off the schedule problem by using the 'upgraded design' excuse. Example: We had to delay four a few months, since the 128Mb buffer ram chips (making this up) is actually old technology and is phasing out in production, so we decided to go with the 256Mb chips, which actually costs less, improving retail price for the consumer. Also, we decided to up the intensity of the colbalt blue backlight for improved visibility in low vis conditions. Finally, we have incorporated 10 new ringtones into the audible alarm, programmable for each kind of profile warning. Example: Ascending too fast will play Linkin Park's "Break", Low air conditions will play "enter sandman" by metallica. Whoever calls your bluff, send them more zeagle stickers...
-If that doesn't work, blame it on your subcontractors. SURELY Zeagle is not designing this computer on their own. Maybe defining the specs and handing it to a hardware/software design company to design/fabricate. As an engineer in several fields I certainly tell you that schedule slippage is VERY common, especially with a ground-up new electronic packaging design that has critical applications. Joking aside here, I'm reading this and you are responding and not mentioning any other partnership in the product fabrication other than ZEAGLE. I seriously, seriously doubt your small plant in Zephyrhills, as well as your staff, have the experience it takes to do a ground up design in hermetic electronic packaging, including prototyping, fabrication, mechanical and software test, and production. You don't have to name your subcontractors, but you ought to let your consumers know that the design work is being done by a top of the line electronics manufacturer under ZEAGLE's direct supervision, and that some schedule slippage is beyond Zeagles control. There is nothing wrong with that, consumers see it as getting it right rather than rushing it.
-Finally, if that doesn't work, do what everyone else does. Blame it on the rising oil prices and the bush administration. Actually, this may be more believable than the first two options....
:D
Keep in mind that although Zeagle has a strong hold in this forum, there are other companies out there that we can purchase from. Delta VR3 is about 25% more in cost than what you are proposing for $900 retail, and has a tried and true reputation. Zeagle makes great products, but so does many other companies, like Scubapro. So, remember that although we all know you and joke with you a lot, others that read this forum may interpret your remarks differently, resulting in bias against your product. So, I propose you send everyone who has replied to this thread a new flathead as a customer appreciation measure. Kind of like how phone companies send you a $100 check if you disconnect your service in order to lure you back. Isn't Zeagle products more important than local phone service? Isn't it worth it? Stickers don't work anymore buddy. :D :D
