Any thoughts on the favorites this year in Rhode Island? My bet is on the Miguel Guinovar group.

I don't know him personaly but I it is the first time I hear something negative about him. But I guess if you are on top the are plenty of people that want to bring you down so it doesn't surprise me to read your post. From my limited knowledge I can say he is a bad a$$. He is a top of the line diver and I consider him to be one of the premier divers I have ever seen in action. I would like to know what exactly you are talking about? I would consider myself fortunate to share a boat with someone as skilled as him. If I don't shoot the biggest fish the reason wouldn't be his wanting to make me look bad just the fact that he is awsome and makes it look easy bc. he can.

Can one of you guys post a link were I could read more about the nationals, I would appreciate it.
thanks.

Pretty flattering article on Chad Palan in the last issue of Spearfishing Magazine. Some friends that do alot of diving with him spoke very highly of his skills and his actions....

Chad Palan happens to be a great diver and spearfisher- if he weren't then we wouldn't be reading about him in magazines. Anyone who says that Palan isn't an awesome diver is just jealous of those skills. However, that doesn't have anything to do with Palan's character or those claims about poaching, so if you're either going to defend him or publicly insult him, make sure you know what your talking about.
I think Conspearasea's post should be taken off, but everyone should just chill and not defend someone that they've never met and only heard about. This forums about fish, not gossip.

For anyone interested the website for the Freediving Nationals is www.rifreediving.com , the website of the host, the Rhode Island Freediving Club.

I have a lot of respect for very talented freedivers, but typically the local knowledge of the home state teams wins out. Think about the fact that it's in cold dirty water, kayak based, and most of us Floridians will have a tough time trying to find and shoot fish like tautogs and others that we have never seen before. I just hope to give it my best shot, which will have to be with a line gun...uggh!!!

The other Chad,

Chad Carney

I would think that the cold water California spearos would have a little edge but will have to shout for the home team. Good Luck to the Red Tide Dive Team.

I have heard that chad palan is one hell of a diver and he obviously shoots serious fish as in SPO he certainly deserves any accolades he receives
