Some hope for the D-Rays

I know major league baseball generally sucks. Everyone knows Football is our national pasttime now!

But I think the Devil Rays have snagged Piniella. I guess our suck ass baseball team may turn around. I may actually go to a game next season.

I was hoping we'd get him, if for no other reason to give the New York media the finger. They have been reporting all week how Tampa doesn't stand a chance, because everyone knows New York is the better job, market, etc.

From what I am reading, they've pretty much agreed to terms. The discussion is now focused on the club, and what management intends to do to get quality players on board.

St Pete Times this morning said it's all but a done deal. Piniella's agent said that they're not even concerned with talking to the Mets anymore.

I'm impressed that the Rays made this work. The club really doesn't have a whole lot of money, (at least, relative to the other clubs!), so ponying up with the deal they did, (4 yrs, 13 mil) shows they're not kidding around about getting better.
