if someone wanted to come down, we could find a place to rent a boat for the afternoon. i think there are a few places taht do it for about $125 for an afternoon. split 3 or 4 ways wouldn't be bad. specially since you wouldn't be paying for gas to tow the boat, and probably not to fill the boat.
i live right in marathon and am more than willing to head out for some slingin fun.

When I was out over Labor Day weekend the blue water was very close to American Shoal light. But near shore in about 15 feet the vis sucked. Strong S-SE wind @15 the past few days pushing the upper clear water in.

I live a few miles down the road from there. It's all good around here. Warm water, shallow freediving, sometimes there is even fish. Straight south from Summerland outs you about in the Looe Key preserve. Don't check out this area unless you want to be depressed by the lack of fish and lobsters on the rest of the reef. You should be able to find plenty to do to keep you out of trouble this summer.
