Setup! Yes, RR I know you hold the coveted JR2 almaco jack (barjack) record of 25, beating Capt. Jimmy Z by one fish. I have to hear him bitch and moan about that on every trip. My topper is 30 fish, mostly mangos, on a spot called Mangopolis 100' in the northen MG.

RR,
Good Topic, but your nads are too large for this forum. What, are you going to tell us you shot 22 bar jacks on one dive? Or was it 27?
I know I was there. Just wanted to bust your chops a bit today. Give me a call and we can do the lunch thing Monday or Tues of next week. I have clients in town Thrusday and Friday so those days won't work for me. Call my cell, I have Dave's number.
I stoned a 4 inch pinfish from 15 feet away on a sand bounce. Well, I had to unload my gun someway.
Be careful of what you post, you never know what TROLL is out there!

It was 25 jacks but whos counting and I was going to leave that out we all know that at times we will help the boat get the limit that it has coming . I was on a boat once and got everyone on board a A.J. is that so wrong?? I think not!!
The point here is to try to get people to see thier potential and to get them using the right gear so stow it will ya!!
D4B he had 17
I heard about some one else that shot 22 but I did not ask who..
Now I will try even harder to raise the bar .
Whos up to it????????
The rest of you guys if it was 2 fish or 200 I would still like to hear about it, what do you say???????
Its like I say " I know Jack Shit he's a good friend of mine "

Before you Moose and Liverock types come out of the woodwork, almaco jacks have no bag or size limit. They are basically as plentiful as gnats on a wildebeast's ass in the MG.

When I was first learning to identify fish underwater (and spearfish), I had my limit of 10 mangos on my stringer. I thought, "This is easy. What the hell do people mean these things run from you?"
But then, when I handed the stringer up, someone said, "Why the **** were you down there shooting grunts!" Now realizing the faux pas that had been commited, I responded, "There was nothing down there, I'm going to use them for grouper bait."

Gnats or not to keep a school of fish around you for 21 mins as you kill them off 1 by1putting your stringer though the eyes of their brothers as the others swim in the blood of the school that is being killed at a rate of less than 1 a min is a bit of luck but some times you have to make your luck
Thank you D4B for pointing that out to those that have no NADS!

My max is only 16. Mostly mangos and hogs but one spanish mackeral, one cobia and one AJ thrown in for good measure.
My main problem (well, as far as spear fishing is concerned) is my reloading speed. I'm just starting to free shaft, though, so the reloading should get much quicker. Only been shooting for a bit over a year too so I'm pretty green to the sport. 1st trip and I whacked a 30 lb cobia...I'll tell you what, I used to joust for a living and that little 30 lb fish yanking me around the wreck made me have flash backs of getting knocked off of a clydesdale wearing 120 lbs of armor! Talk about hooked from the word GO!!

My most so far is 6. But they were all big (yeah.. . . . ). I bet I could wound 20 on a dive, now getting them all to the stringer is another story.

Grouper55, when you going out again? Haven't seen you in the shop lately. Also, talked with Durnin the other day, briefly. He's stayin in Oahu but Brandon will be back from Maui in about 6 mos or so...temporary relocation to save some cash and head down to Central America somewhere for a while to chase some latinas around. Man, to be in my 20's again...
I'm heading down to Islamorada tomorrow for a few days but will be looking for a good trip soon! On another note, Derek is probably buying a boat in the next couple of weeks so you might wanna drop him a ring.

I've never shot more than 6 or 8 fish on a single dive.
One reason is: I always go down looking for grouper and I hate it when he pokes his head out of a hole when I have a 12 inch trigger on the spear. I pass on a lot of legal fish (usually triggers and snappers) looking for that 20 lb grouper.
Another reason is: Most of our best sites (Destin area) are between 80 and 110 fsw. Even on Nitrox, bottom time flies by pretty quick.

32 legal Gags on one dive. 35 minutes bottom time, 75ft of water in February off Carrabelle!
Got the pics to prove it too.
Had two more, but they had "eye tail disease". Their eye's were too close to their tail.

Hey Grouper 55... That was just one of the drops we made on that spot.... If I told you how many drops we made you might have an attack or somethin'.
There were at least 300 Gags on that spot. It was a rock pile.
