watched the fish killa production, on one of the vids there is a diver that has what looks small length of a band on in his gun. it looks only to be a few inches on each end. is that a diff type of band or to detect current or what??? http://fishkillaproductions.tripod.com/middlegrounds/fulljollyrogers.html it is on the middle grounds vid. if i recall correctly it is it the first diver you see.

any one know what this is or remember what it was???

what you are seeing my friend if a very soffisticated piece of underwater technology employed by one of the few people in the western hemisphere who know how to use it correctly. jim zurbeck (jollyrogersII, owner/captian of this fine vessel) is the man featured along a ledge in the middle grounds during our december charter. he is using a commercial rhino gun and has a black band and then the questioned yellow band that flares out approximately nine inches on each side. jim uses this abstract part of his gun in a kind of shakeing motion to entice possible prey. just like the alligator snapping turtle and his worm like toung, jim will sometimes approach fish that are very weary and roll his gun side to side with a kind of "shakety shakety" motion. use only two quick shakes then a 13 second rest. on your second shake do three half shakes then a slower gun roll followed by a 21 second rest. now the third set of shakes is crucial. two quick shakes with a 4 second rest then 5 quick shakes from side to side then fire on the first fish you see. if you miss your fish then do not reload until you have repeated the entire procedure. if you hit your fish quickly string him and go back the the first set of "shakety shaketies" D4B for many years would just wildly shake his gun at any fish he saw with no kind of rythme or mathmatical process. needless to say this did not have the desired effects. many others have tried this procedure with no luck. really the key to all of the action that causes the curiousity in the fish lies heavily in the shoulder and not the wrist. the main fault of novices is their undiciplined use of thier wrist. while grasping the gun you want to be able to rotate your elbow from a parrallel possition to your shoulder 90 degrees down towards your hip all while keeping your arm bent 45 degrees. this flutering of your arm will also send waves of motion energy toward this fish and peek their curiosity. many times they will associate your arm movements along with the "worm" on your speargun as a feeding frienzy. i don't recommend new divers to try this method. it's a very complicated routine that can only be accomplished by advanced divers.

i just wanted to get some input on the "shakety shakety" technique. am i the only person here who is aware of the vast importance of speargun presentation?

This technique is only accomplished after drinking a pot of coffee immdiately before the dive
