100 Daysayear and Rambo Jack came down to Key West to spear w/ us on the Scarab. Had been really rough before they arrived. Gradyman and Underwatertaker had poor dive conditions when they were down just a few days earlier. What luck, winds died as they rolled into town.
We started 12 miles west from KW looking for vis and did 2 drops on the Bar. Working our way west, we stopped @ Richs reef for me to shoot a few frames and as I was filming the monument a black grouper came out of the crack in the coral. I pretended I didnt see him, finished the film, swam away from him back to the boat and got a line shaft gun. Returning, he was gone ,but I knew he was hidding in the Maze under the ledge. As I peeked in w/ a light there he was .Head shot the 30 lb black asap and worked him out of the cave w/ the lineshaft.
Water calmed so much we headed on west to Tony's 155 ft deep Marquesas hump which rises up to 132ft. The Jax boys came loaded for bear w/ their own gas mixes, rigs and deco gear. Note the spear point stuck in the head of Tonys 34 lb black. Nick landed nice Hogs for the Keys. Finished off w/ some Marquesas shallow drops and limited out w/24 bugs. I chased some more blacks but they got away. What a day. Next day the spearing came to a screaching halt w/wind gusts to 40 mph.Beer day :toast:

Another pix of Nicks work. Check out how nice the water was that day. 3 days earlier it was 3ft of vis and milky green.

Way to go [B]MD Spear :thumps: Looks like Rich hooked you up with the black.
Glad the wind calmed down and cooperated for you the rest of your stay. Those are some nice stringers there...wish Gradyman and I would have had better luck. That's why they call it spearfishing and not CATCHING.

BTW, thanks for the PM.

Thanks again Wade (and Randy), it still was a great time...got enough for dinner a few nights and my first yellowfin grouper! The video turned out OK, but would've been much better with better vis.

Going to the MG this weekend if the weather is good to us! See you in August!

Thanx again Wade,we had a great time. We'd have loved to stay, but the 46MPH gusts at 4AM Friday night were a good indicator that it wasn't going to be nice.

I'd loved to have gotten a picture of the 4 of us being splattered in ice when the grouper came back to life in the cooler. That was a classic moment.
