im looking at buying a new knife for spearfishing. i was wondering on everyones opinions on the many knifes out there on the market.
ive heard that the sporasub snake dagger is one great knife. i was looking for a little feed back of anyone that uses this knife.
another knife that i was wondering about was one that i saw at the spearboard open. there was a couple of them on the prize table, and they looked pretty sweet. i dont know the name or brand of the kinfe, but they came in some fancy box. they kinda looked like something spyderco would make, or some new age knife company.
any other suggesions on other knifes would be greatly appreciated....thanks

The Sporasub dagger is BADASS. Excellent for braining those aj's and scaring the X-ray people at the airport!!

Go the extra dollars and buy something titanium. I've had mine for three years, never clean it and does not have a spot of rust on it.

I thought about titanium but I always heard it was a brittle metal and the tip is known to break off.

The knife at the spearboard open was the Aquatec T-Rex. It looks pretty cool, and SpearOne was promoting it at his seminar so thats a plus.

im not really intrested in a titanium knife for a couple of reasons:
1) like said before, titanium is pretty brittle, and snaps lots easier than a ss one.
2)they cost to damn much. i dont wanna be shittin my pants if i lost it and it would be setting me back another 60-80 bucks.
3) the rust on a ss is not a problem. ever heard of corrosion x? its the shizzit. spray a little coat on the knife, and never have to worry about rust. u can let it sit in water, and it wont rust. if u havent tried corrosion x on any thing that rusts, i suggest you do.
there are some other reasons i dont want to get a titanium, but i cant think of them right now

I have not had any trouble with the tip breaking and I've been braining fish with it for a few seasons. It did a hell of a job filleting as well.
Just dedicate it to diving and not loosening rusty bolts or removing metallic objects that accidentally get imbedded in Hector's body on a dive trip and the tip should last for a good while:D

Fishunta and I got ours at Force E in Boca (in fact he sold me mine). I love that knife. I have it mounted upside down on by BC inflator hose with zip ties.

ooooh.......looks like people agree with me and value my opinion. maybe you should keep that in mind Mr. moderator before you assume that because you have the control button, you know what you're talkin about.
now to answer the question, i work at a local dive shop (force-e) and we sell them there. the non-titanium ez locks are cool too, but they don't make them with the stilletto tip, which you would want. They retail for 39 dollars, which ain't so bad for a titanium knife.

My mistake, you are right the Leisure Pro is the stainless steel model. I do have the titanium stiletto blade myself.

I like the cressi norge from scubastore.com its only 25$ and does the trick. I like the grip and the sheath. its nice and sharp. I have a thing for lossing knifes so I stick to the cheap stuff but this knife is a great compromise of value and function. I have two one for diving and one in case.
just my 2cents

I've been using the Riffe dagger & it kicks a$$. It's stainless, comes with arm & leg straps and is just the right size for braining fish.
If you get one, throw away the rubber loop that holds the knife in the sheath & use the bungee lanyard that comes with it. Loop the lanyard through the hole in the hilt, then put the other end over the tip of the sheath. This make it a LOT easier to remove/replace the knife in the sheath & is (imho) a lot more secure than the factory setup.

hey guys i know this sounds a little , well alot , backwoods , but alot of us rig divers take a cheap # 2 phillips screwdriver and use a bench grinder to sharpen it to a point . It works great for convinceing less than perfect shot fish to give up the ghost . Three added pluses , no cutting edges to accidentally cut ones self , small diameter means less resistance to pokeing fish in the brain , and best of all if you lose it you can pick up two or three more for abuck98 @ the local do it yourself center. also a short piece of 5/16" fuel hose tie wrapped to the rear portion of your gun keeps it handy. Not for everyone but it works.

that definately ain't backwards to me, i always dive with a hammer, and sometimes i'll smack a fish with it, but i do have a knife also..........and anyways different techniques is what we all come to this board for!

For years i used a ice pick that had a plastic sheath, till some chump walked away with it. Am still looking for that model. Till then, a #2 phillips screwdriver with a grounded tip works.
