I guess MIT hasn't been keeping up with we have been doing in the Gulf for at least 5 years, and the Australians have been doing for longer. LSU-Baton Rouge Coastal Fisheries Institute has been surveying fish using this methedology for years. The sonar doesn't differentiate between fish species, so surveys by ROV or diver with videocam must be used to determine the distribution of species. Damn yankees think they invented everything!
