Had a break between spring and summer semesters so I went back home to try and get in some bottom time for the first time this year. With the wind, weather, work, and other obligations only managed one offshore trip with the gear but several inshore trips with rod and reel.
Had a bit of bad luck as the fishing gods took some sacrifices from us, namely a top of the line JBL speargun off the back of the boat that nobody saw or hear go overboard, and about a 25 lb snapper ran to the rig and cut the line I had attached to my spear, so we were left at sightseeing the rest of the day with after losing one complete gun and then a spear with no spares. Sightseeing is not the way to go because all you see are the fish that you could be shooting. It sucks.
Here are a few pics from Memorial Day Weekend out of Cameron, LA. Went out about 48 miles, visibility was good but not great, probalby about 30ft or so, temp was 74 on surface but dropped to 68 on the bottom in 70 ft.
This is a pic of the overall catch including rodnreel stuff, speared the two big ling and 3 snappers, that is me on the right holding the 30 lb ling and 16 lb snapper.
