I have been looking for a camera that I can use from time to time when I'm diving. I have a decent digital camera but the housing has long since been discontinued. I am now looking to buy another discontinued camera (Olympus 5050) and there are still a few housings for those cameras available (ebay).
All that to say, I was at sport chalet today and they have a really good deal on an Olympus A410 w/ housing for $300.00, thats $200. off. It is not what I'm looking for but it might work for someone. It also takes video.

[With a housing, $300 is a decent price, but not a great deal. Good for a starter.]
yeah, you are once again the "man in the know" :p, as I checked ebay and the camera "buy it now" and the housing w/ shipping are about $300.

For under $500 you can go new and get a stylus 600 with housing. http://www.leisurepro.com/Prod/CategoryID_971/Context_965/Sort_Stock/DescSort_0/Filter_1%3d877/OLMS600.html

I'd go with a Canon S80 and matching housing. (Ikeltire makes one for it, but it is about $250 more expensive than the Canon housing). This camera is an 8MP camera, with a wide angle lens. Something that you'll love underwater. It also takes full resolution 640x480 30fps video. On top of that it as a special underwater feature that helps your pics come out sweet. The whole set up should cost about $550, but it is far superior to any of the other digital setup I've used (ie Sony and Olympus).
Bellow follow a few pics...
Good Luck,

Tommy,
Nope, brand new online... I think I bought it from www.adorama.com
I have an Olympus 5060 with Ikelite housing for sale if you're interested. The Housing is huge though, and quite cumbersome if you plan to carry a gun and camera at the same time. Honestly I wouldn't commend it...
Below is another pic I took a few weeks ago in the Bahamas... Clear water really helps with good pics... ;)

Fuzz,
Nice shots.
I don't think the shutter lag is quite that long, or atleast not that disturbing when I shoot on continuos mode. I use it to do the over/under shots, and use it whenever taking pics of stuff that doesn't want to stay put. I get quite a few shots doing a 3 second pan from the water to the surface. I should count them one time, just seems like I get at least 3 pics per second... You could very well be right though...
Does the 5050 shot full Res 30fps video?
How do you like the Sony? Does the lack of a wide angle lens limit you a lot? This is probably the only reason why I didn't buy another Sony after I flooded my first...
Below are a few old pics I took with my old P73. The last one is BAB's all time favorite, taken with my Oly 5060 (my least favorite set up I've used...)
I'm sure we aren't making it easier for you, but atleast you have a chance to look at some different types of pics these cameras are capable of...

ok, so, this thread got me curious, so I started looking around for a housing for my Canon Powershot S2 IS. The only one I found is made by Ikelite, and costs $725!!
That's $225 more than the camera!

Richard,
This is what influenced me to buy the Canon S80.

I just bought the Olympus 300 and housing from Sport Chalet for 229.00. It's normally about $500.00. We were not really looking for anything professional, just a solid underwater camera for days out on the boat. If we decide we don't like it, we can sell it for a profit in Brasil.
