View Full Version : Need to transport fuel to boat!

The marina gas prices are killing me. About $2.00/gal, as compared to about $1.35 at a station. One Middle Grounds trip for me is 250 gallons (due in large part to the weight), meaning I could save $165 on a single fill-up if I could transport cheaper fuel to the boat.

The problem is the largest fuel caddy I can find is about 30 gallons. I need a 250 gallon system, with a pump and hose. I have heard of people rigging their own system and putting it on a little trailer, which they take to their boat. Or, what about putting a large tank in the bed of my truck, which could be removed when not in use?

What ever it costs to get set-up, it shouldn't take that long to pay for itself.

Any suggestions?

You may want to check out some of these private fuel companies that run around filling private tanks for lumber yards and delivery truck companies.
I hired one when I worked in Daytona to fill the diesel tank on the reefer we had parked out back to hold the extra food we needed to get through Race Week and Bike Week. If I remember correctly the markup wasn't near what you see at the Marina and it sure beat lugging nasty diesel gas cans around!

I know that there are companies that will haul diesel around to boats, but haven't been able to find anyone yet with just regular gas. That had occurred to me, too, and I'll keep looking. Those marina prices are total BS.

By the way, I saved a guy's ass at the marina yesterday. After filling up, he runs out to look at the pumps, and comes back in and charges me $245.00. The boat had taken 245 gallons, and he made the mental error of thinking that was the price indicator on the pump. I said, "I have to be honest and tell you that you're undercharging me." The light bulb went on, and he realized what he had done. Man, was he relieved that I told him.

I read it off the sign yesterday at Super Wal-Mart, U.S. 19 & Ridge Rd., Port Richey.
