I am a new member to the board and am enjoying what I see so far. I have a question to some of the experienced guys on this board.

Is it better to use a string set up on your gun like what comes with the gun or put a coil on the shaft? I have used both but cant help but feel like the "telephone cord" is going to overstretch and break. My bigger gun for Lingcod uses the string setup that the gun came with. My smaller rockfish gun uses the "telephone cord" shaft retainer.

Any advice for me?

I've just recently used the coiled line and didn't care for it.

I liked the coil set up when I first started shooting until the coil started tangling up and causing the shaft to drop about 4 feet out of the gun.
If you're going to lineshaft, stay away from the coil.

My first line was a coil, and it does tangle awfully quickly. I now have an SS commercial and its line system is awesome.

I see by the pictures that they make a few different types of speed systems. Does it adapt to other brands of guns and how does the system work? I have a JBL NW 38 Special for now and want a set up that will evolve with me. Thanks for the help and any explanations anyone can offer.
