View Full Version : freediving NC
I posted this in the mid atlantic section but will try here as well. I'll be in Emerald Isle, NC from 2-6July. I've been wanting to freedive spearfish offshore in NC for many years now but it has not happened yet. I'm interested in taking a day to go out to some place like frying pan shoals and or wrecks/bluewater to spear. My normal freediving is 40-65 feet but can sometimes go deeper. While not a significantly deep diver (cant hunt on the bottom in 80+ feet) I am experienced both over the reef/wrecks and bluewater. If any one has any advice/input on this area or would like to meet up/put someting together please contact me. I'm guessing my best bet would be to take a boat from moorhead city? Thanks

I'm living in Nags Head, NC for the summer (north of Emerald Isle) and would be more than willing to take you out (we definitely have a 25' center console for the summer...might have an even better boat). I'm definitely not your best option though as I'm only mildly familiar with the waters, at best. Just throwing it out there if I can help, I will.

Ryan,
Thanks for the reply and the offer to go out! I'll be in touch and let you know. Do you know how far nags head is by car from emerald isle? I know wrighsville beach is like 1.5 hours which is about the most I really wanted to drive. I really want to get out to frying pan shoals and I found a boat last night that is going July 2nd from wrightsville and that is the one day my friend David from MD can meet up to dive.
Best regards

Jesus...according to mapquest I could probably swim there quicker than I could drive. Oh well, keep in touch because I wouldn't mind diving down south for a few days given the better viz that is supposed to be there, so maybe me and my friend could take a couple of days off and either trailer the boat down and get a hotel or run it down and camp.
