I was under the impression that the rock fish season was only closed north of point consepsion (sp), through June. If there is a resource that I should know about please let me know.

T4D,
All recreational fishing for rock fish, lingcod, ocean white fish, and scorpion fish is closed south of the Mendicino area down to the Mexican border until July, 1st. What really sucks is the fact that somehow the commercial fishing fleet was left out of this closer. It's amazing what money can do to the people who are supposed to be looking out for management of "OUR!" fishing resources.

On a side note: It was estimated last year that of the several tons of fish taken by the commercial fleets 25% of that was bycatch. WHAT A FREAKIN WASTE OF OUR RESOURCE! I'm sorry for that outburst. It just really chaps my hide when the proof is there, but greedy politicians turn a blind eye and let it continue. Ok, I'll get off my soap box now.

Take care,
Vic

I heard that some divers were trying to put up a big fight against the ban, or at least make the ban uniform for everyone, which would be almost better for us in the end. But I can't recall where I saw the info so if you or anyone else knows how to get involved in this I think that it is worth fighting for.

T4D,
Do a search for CENCAL. I believe there website has the information your looking for. And yes, there are a few organizations representing the recreational fisherman who are filing lawsuits against the DFG because of there actions. They're basing the lawsuit on a Fed law that was past in 1967 stating that if fish resources went below managemant levels that commercial fishing would be closed before recreational. As it stands right now DFG will most likely open all areas of fishing up for 2004 just to make everyone happy. But who knows. As always, take care....
