Well, its been 84 days since we've been on the ocean at all. Not even hook and lining.
Rob (Charlestondiving), Jason, Topisder Mitch, and myself headed out on sunday.
Left the dock late due to the excessive amount of time it takes to load dive gear as compared to trolling gear. Made our way out to about 100ft and there were two center consoles sitting very close to the numbers we had planned on diving first. Not wanting to be rude we fired up the old Foruno and headed down the ledge about a quarter mile and marked some good fish shows and threw the jug.
Water temp was 61 on surface and viz was awesome, maybe 35-40 ft.
Don't remember the order of dives but through out the day Rob shot a gag, a scamp, a nice red snapper, a nice mangrove, a small hog and grabbed some really nice bugs. He had to work very hard for what he got.
Jason shot a gag that rocked up and was a little bit of a struggle to free and also came away with an 8lb lobster.
I didn't pull my trigger until the last dive and I shot my first Hogfish, a small female. I also snagged my first two Slipper Lobsters. The first one went 2 lb 6 ozs.
Final count was 2 Gags, 1 Scamp, 1 Red Snap, 1 Mangrove Snap, 2 female hogs, 6 Spiny Lobster, and 4 or 5 Slippers. I was tempted to shoot at a couple of really nice Sheepshead and Spadefish, but since my computer wasn't working I didn't want to risk taking my eyes of my dive buddy.
I will now be adding extra AAA batteries to my "save a dive" kit.
Also found a dead Slipper lobster. Not just the molt, but the whole thing. Looked fresh. Wasn't eaten or anything. Kind of creepy. I didn't figure dead or sick things lasted very long in the wild. Also, I could've collected about 6-8lb of lead Bank Sinkers if I'd felt like it. A lot of hook and line gear lost on the spots we dove.
