i was wondering if it was legal to spearfish on the eagle. once i got to the keys i asked a couple of people and they told me it was illegal but Junior told me it was a good dive so i did it anyways and shot a nice 9 pound mutton

Spearing on both the Bibb and Duane are legal.
Dove the Bibb and Duane in December Lots of wildlife to be seen. On the Duane I saw a huge Jewfish under superstructure (600 lb +). Speared 2 hogfish both about 18 -20 lbs each. The first somehow got off of my spear but I found him swimming 5 minutes later and caught him by hand. The second was stoned outright. The problem was there were about 200 barracuda in the water around the wreck like battleships in formation. On the way up the line line at about 80 ft. of water I felt some tugging on my stringer tied on my waist (too close to my groin). At first I thought the tugging was from one of the fish still alive on my stringer but It felt too strong. I looked down and saw a 5 ft. Barracuda chewing on the tail of the bigger hogfish. I scared him off momentarily with my hand but he started coming back at me. I regrettably didn’t have the bands pulled back in my speargun so I started poking him in the face with the spear tip each time he came back at my fish. After several minutes of fencing with the barracuda I realized he would not give up until he had my whole fish. It was then I decided on a compromise. I untied the half eaten hogfish and let it float free to allow the barracuda to eat it. Unfortunately I dropped the stringer and it floated downward. I started swimming after it when I saw about 10-15 barracuda swimming towards their free lunch. I hope they enjoyed it because I was mad. What royally pisses me off is that my dive buddy watched the barracuda slowly approach me and start eating my fish but SHE didn't anything about it because she was worried that if she even so much as tried to warn me the Cuda would turn on her. But of course, she was thinking only for herself and had no regards for me despite the fact the cuda's teeth were just inches from my twig and berries.
Back to the wrecks. . . Great dives with plenty of wildlife Well worth diving just from the diving point of view.

Duane, Bibb and Eagle are all legal to spear on since they are outside of the protected zones. Anything within yellow buoys is a no-no as well as many other special areas. It is too easy to call and double check before you shoot somewhere in the keys. They have all kinds of funky rules and such down there.
