I am planning to go to Spanish Cay in the Bahamasthe last week of July and was wondering what types of spear tips to use with either a pole spear or a sling?
We will be shooting fish and lobster. I have the right tip for the
lobster, but what about the fish. I was thinking about the rockpoint breakaway...is that ok...or should i go with something else?
thanks

i mean yea it is " legal " out side of US but do you realy need to spear it? if you are in FL (as i am) and have gotten spiny lobsters you know that they have no 'pinchers'. so what harm can they do to you? get a snare, a net and go get dinner. use a little skill and patience (sp*) i am all for eating sum tail but what fun is it just to walk up to it and shoot it? well if you are that hard up for food do what you have to to get something in your belly and try it 'sportsmen like' next time

If you're after smaller fish with a polespear I would go with a double barbed point. I have used a break-away point on a polespear, but that was for shooting larger fish like AJ's in the 30 lb. range. For smaller reef fish a double barbed works fine. As for shooting lobster, I don't know the laws in the Bahamas, but if it's legal I would go with a single barbed point and go for the carapace. As long as you're using legal means of take there's no reason to let anyone else dictate how you should do something you enjoy.:)

FYI
IN THE BAHAMAS IT IS UNLAWFULL FOR
WHITE MAN TO TAKE GAME USING SCUBA!!!
FOR WHITE MAN TO TAKE GAME THEY MUST FREE DIVE
AND WHY WORK WHEN YOU CAN SHOOT???
AND WHITE MAN CAN NOT USE ANY TRIGGER DEVICES TO
KILL OR HARVEST GAME
THAT IS WHY I AM ASKING FOR THE BEST SPEAR TIP
TO SHOOT FISH WITH A POLL SPEAR

From my experience a tri-cut works much better than a rockpoint tip, you can file a tri-cut to make the edges sharper. Or use a paralyzer if you just want one all arount tip for the pole spear, it'll also make smaller holes in the lobster.
I avoid rockpoint tips alltogether, but I would especially avoid one with a pole spear, due to the decreased power when compared to a speargun. I also wouldn't think a break-away tip to be be a good idea when using a pole spear.
Just my opion though.

GO with the tri cut tip. You will have 3 cutting edges to penetrate with insted of just a pointy round "stick":D .
HEll yeah bro. It is hard as .... to work on a lobster while holding your breath. Spear the hell out of 'em, but don't take females!
