I am looking at the Dive Rite, VR-3, Cochran and HS Explorer, among others. http://www.vr3.co.uk/vr3/main.php?content=intro
http://www.divecochran.com/computers/EMC-20H/index.html
http://www.diveriteexpress.com/computers/nitekhe.shtml
http://www.hs-eng.com/

I Like the VR-3 alot, but heard recently that the VR-3 may not be conservative enough. (See link -http://www.bikiniatoll.com/fabioletter.html.)

I am new to trimix, and I will use the computer mostly for spearfishing.

I would appreciate any thoughts/experiences about the pros and cons of each.

Thanks.

Dont discount the Vr2 model, they just came out with an upgrade for normoix mix . A lot of the same features as the VR3 but if memory serves you cant upgrade to the CCR. And its a bit more cost effective if you dont plan on using rebreather or hypoxic mix.,

 I love diving my VR3 and have been for a few years now and it is plenty conservative. I also run tables and you can compare the two. Alot of 3mix divers think it is WAY to conservative.
YMMV

I used my VR3 for the first time in the grounds yesterday and loved it. I did 6 drops staring with one to 145 and my shallowist being 118. I only dove nitrox and only had deco on the 145ft drop (deep stops). I dove a Suunto Viper as back up and it only put me into deco on the first and fourth or fifth dive. The VR3 was more liberal than the viper but no too much and the Suunto viper is considered extreme;y conservative. D4B did the same drops as me and his dive-rite Nitek Plus was liberal than the VR3. The deep stops plan it uses is great. Viz was so good that we could hunt from 20-30ft off the bottom and it would then let me go straight to the top as long as I stayed slow (30 ft/min. or less) on ascent. I believe it was money well spent. Thanks Dago! :D

Local Shop stopped carrying HS because they were very prone to failure.
Dive-Rite is far too conservative.
Cochrans get mixed reviews.
VR-3 is nice and adaptable but service shipping/returns can be a nightmare at times.A buddy has 2 VR-3/C4 in his Meg, does extended cave dives almost every weekend and loves them
I use a Uwatec BT and a Veo200 in guage mode VPMA 0 conservatism.

Bret has the VR3 too. I thought from a previous thread discussion that the Dive Rite He was actually more conservative than the VR3. Is this not the case?

I have dove the He also and find if you slow down at all on your ascent rate or put in a couple of deep stops that it really makes you pay for it at the end.
The computer is fine and will get you out of the water in a fair time but when you turn the dive and there is a deco stop to get to make sure you get to it.
The VR3 will give you credit for the deep stops in the 1/2 to first stop area and if you are not into to much deco will clear before you get to the first stop altogether. I run tables with the VPM algo. and find the RGBM follows along fine unless you really go deep and long.
Hope this helps

Dago, do you feel the VR3 does a good job on all dives, even deep and long ones? Or is there some point after which you don't trust it? If your run tables disagree significantly, which do you follow? What program do you use to run your tables, V Planner? Anyone else have an opinion on this?

Thanks
