Anyone have experience or advice on personal epirbs ($550) vs. boat mounted epirbs ($850). I'm looking at ACR globalfix 406 vs. Aquafix 406, both with internal GPS manual release. Big difference price wise. Half a tank of gas these days  They both seem to have the same capabilities. Thanks.

I think the difference is the life of the battery. 24 hours .vs 48 hours. I opted for the Globalfix.

EDIT...

There is also a built-in strobe light for low visibility conditions.

Battery life is up to 72 hours when it is new and in optimum conditions. More time to search for you with a live signal.

Manually activated and floats on it's own.

NO ONE recommended a Personal EPIRB. Everyone I spoke to and respected told me this is the only way to go...how much is your life worth? In my mind, if it's good enough for them, it's good enough for me.

I got mine from H&L Tackle http://www.handltackle.com/store/

I received it in one day.

If you don't have one now is a great time ACR is offering a $230 gift package (RapidDitch Express Bag, Firefly2 , Firefly Plus DiveResQ, DistresSOS Light & Flag) with the purchase of a 406 EPIRB and a $187 gift package with the Auqafix PLB (RapidDitch Express Bag, Firefly2 and Firefly Plus DiveResQ).

I know H&L is putting one on the table at the Spearboard Open!

The Aquafix doesn't have an internal GPS it has an interface. Get the global fix.

edit-
My bad looks like they have models that DO have an integral as well as the interface and models with just the GPS interface. I didn't see where it said how long it took to acquire its location though. I still want as much broadcast time as possible.
