Very cool! I was looking around yesterday and couldn't find out if it had sunk upright, so that answers my question.

Not really close enough to dive unless you have a liveaboard to hit both over several days. You could go out to the OZARK which is pretty much south of the pass, and then shoot over west to the ORISKANY, and then back to Destin (hitting a couple other things along the way), but over a weekend. Plus, I don't know of any boats around the area for that sort of thing aside from private boats perhaps.

Mike, in the photos there is a boat on the deck prior to the sinking. That same boat appears to be floating around during and after the sinking. Were the explosives controled remotely or was there people on that boat?

That was a launch from the EISENHOWER and it had a container on it that had trash from the crew that was onboard the carrier for four days during the deployment, equipment, etc. It was designed to float off the vessel and be recovered post deployment.
No one was onboard the carrier during detonation. Upon the EOD team's departure, the 30 minute countdown was initiated. It would only stop upon a "fouled range" such as protected resources being sighted, a boat encroaching the perimeter, etc.
