And people were saying that it's a "trash fish" :D

OUR migrants wearing snorkels and masks were arrested trying to HARPOON an £8,000 fish — but cops let them go.

Police rushed to a lake stocked with carp after a park patrol swooped on the wetsuit-clad poachers — armed with a spear gun.

The men, thought to be Albanian, were hauled to a police station and grilled about trying to bag the protected species. But they were released without charge after cops swallowed their fishy excuse . . . that they were after MUSSELS.

An outraged angler who spotted the men at Friday Lake in Cheshunt, Herts, said yesterday: “It’s unbelievable. They were all in wetsuits and snorkel masks — and armed to the teeth.”

A 40lb specimen can fetch £8,000 as a delicacy.

The lake is owned by English Nature and the Lee Valley Regional Park Authority and leased to Kings Arms and Cheshunt Angling club. Anglers who hook carp must throw them back by law.

Police confirmed: “Four men were arrested on suspicion of attempted theft under the Wildlife and Countryside Act.

“Under the Wildlife Act, mussels are not classed as fish, so no offence had been committed.”

The Environment Agency’s Neil Sampson said: “Many foreign nationals think these fish are for eating. We have signs up in 20 different languages but still it goes on.”
