Just a quick report on my first hunting trip. Aboard the Deeper Peeper on July 12. Great day! Gulf calm as a lake for most of day. About 4:30 seas rose to about 5' but it was time to come home anyway.
Did five dives. Brought home two good AJs. (Lost one good snapper because I was too excited and to mechanically challenged to operate a stringer. This was my first fish and my first spearfishing "fish story".)
Keven built me a great gun. 48" Hornet. He also gave me great advice about the tackle and equipment I needed to start spearfishing. (By the way, Kevin, I do have a suggestion about the design of fish stringers.)
Deeper Peeper was great and Captain Harold did a good job of putting us on some good sites.
Enjoyed seeing Bubba Bridges again. Bubba did my orginal certification 6 years ago.
By the way, there were dolphins everywhere. After spearing my first fish, I saw a shadow to my right. I turned expecting to see a shark after my fish (I've been reading the stories on Spearboard too often.) The shadow was a big bottle nose that circled me at about 10', on its side studying me. This was about the time I was practicing spear and release with my first spear kill. When I got back to the boat, the guys on board immediately asked, before I told my story, if I had seen the dolphin with the big snapper in its mouth.
