I just got approval from the boss and scheduled a seminar in Houston. Of course, I always try to add on some fun days to the work trips! :D
I will have Saturday, Sunday, and Monday - July 29, 30, and 31 - free all day to dive. If anyone is willing to take a Hawaii freediver out, I would be grateful; I'd like to think that I'm a good guest on someone else's boat (here is where I hope Bill Mc will vouch for me... lol).
My personal philosophy about travelling dive trips is: if you are able to get in the water, terrific! The trip's a success. Fish on top of that is just gravy! I really just want to check out something different (although I'll admit to really wanting to spear a cobia!).

Willie,
If you can grab a puddle hopper and fly into to Gulfport MS you have a ride and a place to crash. Its about a one hour flight and you can normally get them for about 100 bucks.I shoot the same guns you do so you could use mine to cut down on stuff to tote.Best offer I can make brother.

Oh, that Willie. Yes, he's a great guest, but he will decimate the local fish population if you let him.:)

Hey Willie!
I'll be in the houston area from Friday to Sunday.
Get a chance lets go have a beer or 3.
I'll bring my spearing gear just in case someone chimes in on this thread and can get us out to a rig.

I don't have a boat, but you are more than welcome to stay at out place in Surfside for the weekend. It'd save you drivetime to the dock. The island is across the intercoastal from Freeport, 30 min from Galveston, and less than an hour or so from Matagorda.
Let me know if I can help. Or if you guys just want to get together and knock back a few I'm always up for that.

If the weather is good, I intend to be out at least one of those days. In fact, I could arrange a day off and make it two days. One thing to remember, most diving is from the coast a minimum of an hour from Houston. Then, you have to tack on another couple hours each way out to good water depth and clarity. What is your schedule for these seminars? My boat is an hour and a half from Houston and closer to better water from where I launch than some other places. If only it were just a 3-4 mile journey offshore... but I typically run 30-45 or more miles offshore from the coast. :D

The further out to the DeepBlue Sea the Happier I am...How is work today...I'm behind...behind on work that is, but catching up. I need to go to the beauty shop, and do something about my salt water hair. LOL LOL :D
Processing loans today at work, about to pull my hair out...See you later, and lets do lunch in Houston soon.

Wow, guys (and gal!), I'm really grateful for the offers. I will be making my plane reservations today and then be better able to give the where and when.
Maybe another HHH would be fun too? It's always good to meet fellow spearos and tell stories.
Now I'm thinking that I need to fly in a day earlier than planned.... :D

I'll probably have to take a rain check because the best price that I can find to Gulfport and back to Houston is $340 (tried expdedia and travelocity). I've been meaning for years, though, to go and hook up with Mike Wade in AL (Stickmen Freedivers) and check out LA and MS as well. Will definitely do it soon.

Sounds like a good time! It's funny, in Kona, you can be sitting at a FAD in 3,000 feet of water and still clearly see houses on the shoreline. ITB, the classes don't start until Tuesday 8/1, so I have all day open the prior Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Count me in!
I pulled out my PADI card last night and about died laughing. I look about 12 years old in the picture. I'll probably have to stick to freediving... lol.

We on the gulf coast can get jealous real quick like... so don't rub it in about your great conditions! :D Heck... I was happy off Ft. Lauderdale in 200-300 feet of water within sight of the shore! We're about 55 or more miles out to get that here, and my eyesight ain't near that good! :p
At least you don't have to give the seminars those nights! That would be really tough! 100 miles to boat, 50 miles offshore, 50 miles back... 100 miles back to Houston.......

Venturing off 50 miles offshore is very adventurous to me...its what I love..is to why I don't have a man in my life...that and I was told I need Ductape to cover my mouth up
So 50 miles offshore and back is not a bad ride...it should be a fun ride...

Well Mike Cryer, Jackie & Paul, Congratulations on the Fiesta....Why don't you show em the REALLY Big Fish,
that you always have gotten for the last 10 years...wouldn't they really be amazed. There are some very "HardCore" Divers here in Texas that don't even use the internet or much less own a camera....I've seen "Bigger Slab's" thrown on the boat...and the "monsters's were "gutted" before bringing them on the boat....Thanks Mike for Showing em how its done Texas Style....Like you guys always do....
I'm having one heck of day....My tournament partner for Waldo's got "GREEN AROUND THE GILLS" I only made 1 dive on Friday and got my record Cobia with my new Sea Hornet Commerical gun that I would not trade for the World...laugh all you want too....Don't knock it until you try it...Its Long and Heavy, now If I can just pay for it... Anyway he left with my fish.
We didn't get to Dive Saturday or Sunday...It was too late to catch a ride on another boat. I was diving alone, and got my Cobia...the whole purpose of this was for me not to spearfish in Deepwater alone anymore since I've had surgery... he forgot his weights so I end up Spearfishing Alone.
Before the tournament they voted to throw in another $200.00 on top of the other money...its OK its for a good cause...but they start hitting me up early this morning....I sat at home alone Saturday & Sunday and didn't get to fish.
My Cobia went on a ride to Houston...I sat here all weekend not in the water. My fish turned into a fish fry in another county...I owe $700.00 for my speargun..that I Love...I owe $200.00 to the winner and $75.00 to Waldo. I woke up early this morning and posted first thing what happend, and that I'm sticking to my word for the MONEY, I do what I say I'm going to do....then I've been bashed by the men...that If I'm going to run with the Big Boys...I need to pay up...I always pay my on way for fuel. I can't belive I purchase a Speargun longer then there boats, and can pull the bands back...they get all trolled up. Boy I'm ready to go spearing in Lousiana with those Miami Boys.
What a monday....and to top that off ....No photo taken of my Cobia...well we know why...there hands are full with me on the boat, only in a good way...I make people laugh...Be glad when this day is over...I didn't even go to the weigh in
Thanks Mike Cryer for Rigging my Gun for me...and the Spareshaft...when you shoot it...it goes all the way through to 3 fish at one time, and then my Gulf tip stuck on the other side of the Rig Leg. I love it and wouldn't trade it!!!!
Now If I can find a boat Big Enough to carry it....
I was planning Happy Hour for Crab, and all of our people...I've been attacked my Grown Men today...cough up money....
Maybe its the MOON PHASE I hope...

I wouldn't exactly call it freediving when you can barely see the end of your gun, but there is spade fish and 2 mullet that would disagree! Saw a 3' and 5' tarpon out there, that was pretty cool. Just wish the vis would get a little better.
