I am looking for one or two experienced divers to dive next friday out at the race (eastern long island) for bass. I Have a 17' whaler w/ 90hp four stroke to dive off and the ride from the dock takes about 45 mins. Would like to leave pretty early in the a.m. (8am or so). I won't be around this weekend to check this, but will leave my number to call if you are interested.

How deep do you usually have to go to be productive in the race? I imagine you will be timing it for slack tide? It must be pretty demanding diving there, i've seen the currents. Sometimes the water is actually bubbling it's so strong.

I was thinking the same thing. I've dove Race Rock on the lee side with the tide ripping. Lots of strippers there.

no, i do not dive solely during slack water as more bass tend to be at the turns of the tides. the tide ranges from 3kts to 5+kts depending on moon conditions. boat drops a diver in the water far before the piece he is diving on and then he kicks his way with the current towards the bottom. hunting depths for me range between 25-40 ft. you start to get the hang of it soon after the first dive, if you are interested in heading out with me this sunday give me a call.
