Ok it’s time to start planning the weekend dive trip! Who’s in?
I would like to dive the 29th and be in OC that evening because I have a buddy playing a gig in a bar there that night. I’m still on the hunt for the best shore entry location between VA beach and Cape May. Anyone have a spot? I am looking at Chincoteague or Wallops Beach in VA; maybe Indian River bay inlet in Delaware? The most promising is the Wallops beach area with its jetties; at least the aerial pictures show jetties. Has anyone been in that area?
I know most spearo’s use a boat here on the eastern sea board, but a lot of us are not that fortunate. What makes a good spot for shore entry spearfishing on the east coast?
It is parking first and foremost. Secondly I think it would be legality, I think most public beaches have rules on this sort of thing. The last thing I consider but just as important as the other two is fish habitat. Reef structure here in the east is limited, leaving the shore entry dude with having to find Jetties, inlets and anything else we can safely dive near shore.
Also before you all chime in, I know some of you will want to say “get a Boat or find a buddy with a boat” thanks for the advice… shore entry locations please? :D

Hey, you know I'm with you on shore entries bro, and so are the rest of the DC Area Sea Snipers - right fellas?? :] But I won't be diving this weekend, unfortunately. It'll be the 5th for me. I'd like to try Indian River Inlet or Chincoteague, maybe. I know Cape May very well, but not for diving, although the Inlet there is rumored to be pretty good. I plan to hit the Jersey Shore with Bruce and Rod once a month when I go home. But, please go on and scout out some spots and slay some fish if you can this weekend in my absence and let me know what you find.

Roger that Bro!
It looks like another exploration trip for me to scout out the eastern shore. I’m thinking of heading out Friday night after work or early morning Saturday to make the high tide around 11:35 or so. I plan to start at wallops beach and move north to OC. This is also dependent on the weather. But I will be in OC this weekend no matter what happens. I will post any changes to my trip if anyone wants to link up this weekend

Yeah, I can't make it this weekend either, but maybe next weekend somewhere. If not Jersey, maybe to VA Beach or Chincoteague.

There are no rocks in chincoteague near the inlet. Wallops has the long jettys but it is a government beach with restricted access. The beach on wallops has a very shallow slope also. I saw in OC last week some boys speared tog with sucess on the rocks at the inlet. That is going to be your best bet from shore around the area I believe. I have been going off chincoteague a few miles in the boat and there is some good structure and wrecks around there.

Yeah, but as far as a shore dive it sounds like Chincoteague and Wallops are probably a no go. We did dive out of OC last month, but the conditions were pretty bad. Still, if the wind wasn't kickin' and viz was better, it would have been real good.

Hi Guys,
I will explore and continue to explore till I find the best shore entry locations, but I think the weather will have the biggest effect on this trip out to the coast. Anyway that’s what makes a weekend warrior tough!
Thanks for the info and I will see what I can and can’t get in to this weekend.

Unfortunately the next 2 weekends are out for me for diving. I have been around the north jetty at indian river inlet and seen some sheepshead and big flatties. Another spot i'd love to try is sunset beach over at cape may. I remember the water being not brown there as a kid and there is a concrete ship wrecked just off shore. Might be worth a shot, even a DC fun dive?

Cape May would be good. I grew up in South Jersey and know Cape May pretty well, and have been to Sunset Beach many times. We might be able to get a group dive together with some of the Jersey boys here in the board, as we've talked about diving the Cape for quite some time now.
A DC fun dive might be Sandy Point State Park near Annapolis for an afternoon, but Mark said that the viz wasn't all that great most times.

Red Eye's Dock Bar Bikini Contest on Sundays through the summer would be much better than the diving in the Bay off Sandy Point. ;o)

I may be able to do a dive this sunday if anyone needs a dive buddy. FYI I'm down in southern NC this week and I must say Wrightville Beach area looks good for diving even when its windy the water seemed blue...
Redeye seems like a REALLY good dive spot too...
