Has anybody been diving in Norway? If so, would appreciate any information. We'll be going there next week.

I HAVE NOT SPEARFISHED NORWAY BUT MY DADS WIFE IS FROM NORWAY AND SHE SAID THAT THE FISH IS ABOUT THE SAME AS IN NOVA SCOTIA WHERE I HAVE SPEARFISHED, I WOULD NOT EXPECT VERY BIG FISH MAINLY POLLACK AND SMALL TOMMY COD BUT THEIR IS AT LEAST IN CANADA A LARGE NUMBER OF FLOUNDER IN THE 3LB RANGE AND LAST TIME I WAS THEIR I GO 40 IM NOT SURE IT WOULD BE THE SAME BUT TRY NEAR BEACHES WHERE THEIR IS SAND AND ROCK BOTTOM AND YOU PROBLY DONT HAVE TO GO VERY DEEP GOOD LUCK
There is a website out there for spearing norway. They post pics of an abundance of good size fish being taken and describe where and when to find them. Not sure where I got the link from though??

Where will you be going in Norway? Oslo? Stavanger? Tromso?
I used to go there 2 or 3 times a year to train their instructors. We had suprisingly good visibility and there were a number of good sized fish that would have been worth shooting. Wolf eels are one of the nastiest looking critters I have ever seen.
It's a beautiful country, and I hope you get a chance to see some of it while you are there. If you get a chance go to a fish market and buy a kilo of fresh shrimp and eat them on the spot (with a beer). They actually taste sweet as if they have a little sugar on them.
I don't think I have to mention that you might want to "dress warm" for your diving.

Actually, I thought that the ladies in Norway were much better looking than the ladies in Sweden, but that's just my opinion.

I can see you are hitting the tequila once again. Is our bet back on for the first day of the season?

Team Kampela's a Finnish club. But they do go to Norway at least once a year for the noted competition Kristiansund Cup. In fact, Finnish top spearo Matti Pyykko won this year.
As OceanEd said, in the West Coast water is pretty clear (to 70 ft.), mostly in late Spring and early Fall. Summer a bit less due to plankton bloom. There are a lot of fish but not much variety. Mostly pollacks, coalfish (called pollock in the US) and some (Atlantic) cod (when they come up in late Spring). Plus flatfish like (European) plaice. Wolf-fish aren't shot on meets but many Norwegians consider them a delicacy. There are millions of (ballan) wrasses (not hunted).
Water rarely gets over 60°F in the summer. A beautiful country and sea-side.

Thanks to all who responded. Three of us went to the Kristiansund Cup in Norway. It was a blast. Below is a photo of Anastasiya Iliana of Russia with an atlantic salmon (about 25 LB). We were told it was illegal to shoot these fish although no one made a big deal of it. Later one of the Norwegian guys hopped off the dock and shot one about 12 pounds. This we were told was fine, since a stupid fish like that was by himself and had obviously escaped from one of the fish farms.

Were you able to get any diving in Chauggie? Sounds like a good time.

Sure, we got to do some diving. Five days of scouting and shooting fish, then two days for the tournament.
