Today's dives with JDC, sharks on Tunnels did not wish me happy birthday. The story, Amazz was DM for JDC and she told me she would pay for my trip on the boat. I didn't really care about diving after a close call in 90 ft of water on Thur (mini season). Anyway, I went and enjoyed the dives until my solo swim to the back side of the Tunnels with gun. Observed a nice Mutton Snapper, looked all around for any sign of sharks. No sharks were spotted, I shot the Mutton and before I could get it on the stringer I was surrounded by 5 sharks that became instantly aggressive. I realized that I only had seconds before one would come in and take the fish. They were bumping me and I immediately shot off of the bottom and made a controlled instant surface. I gave Mike on JDC the fish and gun and dived back down to enjoy the rest of the dive sightseeing. I cleaned the fish and Amazz and I went ot Schooners for lunch where they cooked the fish to perfection. On the 1st dive myself and Amazz rescued a green turtle that was tied up in monofiliment line and caught on the reef. Amazz came up with a bag of line and fishermen say we destroy the reefs.

Can anyone say Shark Shield? That was just great freeing that turtle, you ought to be very proud of that, :D 'cause I'm proud of you for doing it... way cool awsome job! :yay: :thumps: If I find mono anywhere I will usually cut as much of it out as I can... if I have the gas to do it... mono takes a very very long time to deteriorate, and over time it just piles up and can get out of hand. I did a couple reef/wreck clean ups and was just flabbergasted at the amount of mono and crap that came up... :( If you guys find it down there, think about maybe doing a little philanthropic work and cut it out if you can safely, we all share one ocean, and its piling up fast. :thumps:

I have done the Boca Grande pass cleanup twice now and the amount of line is unreal.

Dago, you guys let me know when the next cleanup is, I'll donate a boat and four drops a day for four divers... or till I drop for that kind of cause. I've done two here in Volusia with the Volusia Reef org. and several with my Son and the Beach Patrol on the beaches. Unbelievable the amounts of crap you get on them is'nt it? I think our grand total for about 20 divers over three days on a couple of sites was like 400 lbs. Took 8 garbage cans to put it all in, mono, leaders, lead, garbage, bottles, cans, rope, wire, one guy even found a kitchen sink... I shyt you not. The beach totals usually exceed half a ton.

Reminds me of the commercial way back of the Indian paddling down a river to stop on a shoreline covered in crap, he looks to the camera as one tear rolls down his face. :(

nice job on the mutton, the aggressive shark presence is starting to become just as familiar a sight in boynton as of late...
