did anyone get to see the sperm whale while it was alive, i hope this isnt a repost i just got home from the keys today.

we were the first boat to find the whale, we were running out under spanish channel bridge to go out for dolphin tuna and wahoo, when i noticed a huge blackish gray thing coming out of the water and it was about 20 feet long...

i showed my uncle and he drove over there and we realized it was a huge whale, it ended up being 51feet long and weighing 35,000 pounds it was alive for about a day stuck on the 6 foot deep sand bar but it didnt make it it was probably to heavy and sick to move..

ill have some pics, we jumped in the water with an underwater camera so i hope the pics turn out, we called coast guard after we got out of the water and they came within 5 mins and backed us 100yds away from the whale so were probably the to swim with the whale

i saw it while it was dying while i drove over the bridge. they gave it a heavy dose of sedatives because they knew it would die. they didn't euthanize it because the dose of those chemicals for a 22 ton whale could have hurt the environment after it died. they did the best in-water necropsy they could & then towed it out past the reef tract to decay. but the gulf stream & winds said otherwise because the carcass is back & now rotting off of the 7 mile bridge. NOAA says they can't move it again because it will just fall apart from the current decay. yuck. strange incident. too bad it was a sick whale but cool that you got to see it up close

Tropical storm Chris is going to move it again...or at least parts of it.
