We have one spot for tomorrow Saturday, 10 hour, 3 dive trip. If you want to go then call Michael on the phone 361.688.9071 Visibility has been great and the big red snapper are back in. Last Saturday clients got 10-20 pound red snapper. The bottom is clearing up and we expect to be getting our annual August super visibility where it is 200+ foot vis. clear from the bottom to the surface.

ok so I bailed early on a date and headed to packery tonight...it was actually pretty good. Shot a vermillion snapper and a sheepy. Problem was there were too many freaking snook in the way to get a good shot on some of them. I stayed until dark and handed off my catch to some guys on the beach. i was gunna stay on the beach but decided to crash a party afterward headed to Farahs where I proceeded to get lit and play pool. It's going to be a early roll call in the AM for Packery south, then Port A MAYBe in the afternoon. If any of you guys are headed out there, I'll be sporting a JBL 38 special SW edition , some Sporasub fins and probably a black and white rash guard to keep the sun off me. Saw plenty of Specs, snook and reds today...too bad you can't shoot them. Plus I swear there were some 20+" mullet!

Today I did a bit better...3 mangroves this AM and a Jack Crevelle. Had lunch and went back, but tide was moving out, and I didn't want to swim to the South Jetty. I saw ton's of gamefish, but not much I could shoot. Can I legally shoot Smacks? Saw a few schools of them, but couldn't get a straight answer if they were legal or not!

nothing wrong with that at times...some times it's just easier to let them think they are in control, then get yelled at.

It's simple you can not shoot any gamefish in Texas State waters! Look up this llink or get a parks and wildlife rule book. The game wardens don't play around and the fines wil make your @ss pucker. A friend of mine got nailed $400.00 for an over limit redfish not correctly tagged. He wasn't an experianced fisherman but was a hunter and should have known to cut out month and date on the tag. He just filled out the county info. PLEASE be carful these guys don't give breaks!

ok I've looked at the book and search for GAMEFISH and NOn Gamefish 2 times....I don't see anywhere that it labels gamefish and non gamefish. You can't use thier chart, because sheepy's have daily and size limits just like trout, but are fair game. Anyone know where I can find a list?
EDIT.... Never mind just found it page 32

no problem...I'm gunna study it and possibly laminate the fish I can take, what sizes, and keep it on my while diving.

Bugpower...did you see anything wrong with that post!!! When you said you were going to the jetty's. I have been diving on the jetty's. We lady's go spearing here in Texas with the men. Someone made a comment about it.
What is wrong with going spearing with the men? Where I live we go often. I know there wives. I'm sorry but, I can't sit around a scrap book with the ladies at church all the time. I do have a life. Am I supposed to go spearing alone?
I'm direct and to the point. I have nothing to hide. Its the quite ones you have to worry about.

He just filled out the county info. PLEASE be carful these guys don't give breaks! :eek:A couple of weeks ago, we came back to the docks with two lings we'd shot in federal waters (on the rigs, 40 miles out) and the game warden gave us a lecture about spearing ling in State waters...he threatened to give us a ticket even though he admitted it would be his word against ours in court.
We offered to show him our GPS showing that we transited State waters at about 20 knots, making it impossible for us to have deployed divers (I guess the US Navy SEALs could deploy at that speed, but one look at our beer guts and the average age of 50 would prove we weren't SEALs).
The ironic thing is that the guy who shot the lings is the most responsible, conscientious sportsman I've met, including both hunters and fishermen.
I support game wardens wholeheartedly because I know that poachers are stealing from all of us by taking more than their share and when we spend $150 on gas and see nothing (because some poacher got all the fish), but I can't understand why a law enforcement agent would consider writing a ticket he knows he can't enforce, and without even a pretty good idea that laws were broken. Seems like that erodes respect for law enforcement.

Wow,
It sounds like a guy who in the job to get some authority he probably never had, but always wanted. :bashhead:
Last time I ran into a parks and wildlife game warden, there were two of them and they pulled me over on the water. One asked if he could come aboard and inspector our required safety gear and fish, in a rather demanding way. I frowned and told him its late and we still had several hours to go with loading, cleaning, traveling etc.. He and his partner immediately changed their attitude from demanding to please.
They said they were new on the job and they had not had an opportunity to see many offshore fish yet and they had stopped us in hopes of seeing some. It was really funny how their attitude change, but it was nice and I and the divers with me gladly showed them our fish. They asked a lot of questions about what type they were, how big they got, how we speared them, etc.. They didn’t even ask to inspect the safety gear. :D

Don,
Pm me with the info for this labor day! I'm practicing all I can. I need some help finishing up a float line. I've got about 100' of line pulled through some 5/16 tubing, but need to know how to seal it off.

John, that is interesting. I asked a game warden about a similar fishing situation a few years ago. He told me as long as you are not engaged in fishing inside of 9 miles you would be safe. I don't think this warden was in the right to lecture you. Maybe he was simply trying to warn you not to spear game fish in state waters. Hope I never meet up with this guy! They can cause you no end of greif. Even if you win a court battle over something like this you still lose money and time. Good hunting and Fair seas! :thumps:
