that's just what I wanted to know. I had to work getting my classroom ready for Monday and the kids so I stayed up at the lake until 2pm. So I just headed south of the dam....visibility 2'. it sucked just as bad. I couldn't see the end of the gun...not even 1/2 way.

Any idea on the Port A vis?

Packery is the better of the two jettys. Port A has to many ships going in and out. When you do get a good day a ship will come through and your day is done most of the time. Do you get any good days at the lake. Seems like you could shoot some big gator gars in the lake.

They are constantly letting the water out. I have never seen better then 4 or 5 ft visibility. How the gator gars are on the top and I see them some days, but not many big ones....usually around 3' or so. I'd rather shoot some carp up here they fight like crazy. I used to bowfish for them, and before that it was a pitchfork of the back of a jetski!

Me and my brother used to shoot big gars of both kinds in Lake Travis, and Canyon lake when I lived in Buda. We would shoot four and five foot gator gars, but we would have to freedive to 80'' or more and sneek along the bottom. We would just wait till the vis was good enough to use or medium offshore guns. We still hunt there sometimes when storms are in the gulf. I havn't shot any big gar this year though. I did get a 40# buffalo. Used old deer corn and bread to chum him in. I think I also threw some old shrimp in to. Do you use any kind of float line on the jettys? Every gun I own has breakaways on them, but a reel would work good on the jettys. I like a 30' float line when I hunt on the jettys just in case I drop my gun and it will make it easy to find if my gun gets tangled in fishing line.

nope I stay pretty close to the rocks right now, I've only been spearing about 3 times. So for now it's just a standard rigged JBL 38 mag NW edition. now I've just been shooting around 10' to keep it safe.

Went after work and the vis was about eight feet or less. I only saw gray and dog tooth snappers. Saw one big bull shark that got a free snapper for dinner. So we moved to the other end and didn't see him any more. Saw some spanish macks, snook, and look downs. We tried to get the line fisherman to catch the kings but they couldn't get a bite. The best fishing was off the end of the jettys in the breakers.

man if you can catch some of those baby look downs...they sell for $100 in the salt water Aquaruim world. I was fishing this summer and caught 3. I only had my bait bucket with me so I put them in there. The kiddo's at the beach with me couldn't keep thier hands out of the bait bucket and they died. When I looked up the prices online my heart sunk! I'm going to head out saturday night maybe and sunday if it's clear I'm going to hit up port A for some larger fish. I just haven't seen any fish of size in Packery. Maybe St. Joes freediving on Sunday? Who's up for it? Seems seas are forcasted under 2' for the next 36 hours.

St. Joes Island is the port a north jetty. You have to kayak or take a boat over there i just realized...for some reason I thought the ferry took you over there, but I just looked at the map. Soooo probably no St. Joes! I guess it's south Jetty or Packery for me this sunday!

That water looks great for Texas waters. If I ever get a day where I am not busy I might have to try going down there.

I found out today that there is a ferry to St. Joe's island. I have to get more info, but that Jetty should be teaming with much more life!

1lane snapper the day before, and 3 mangroves the next day. I REALLY wanted to shoot a smack, those suckers were fast, and the monster I just saw for like 1/2 second before he was off to the deep. I really though I would see Mr. Gray suit, some guys said there was a 10' sand tiger hanging around the jetties thursday night, and I dove up until 7 or maybe a bit later friday and was up there by 9 or 10 saturday. I still haven't hit the south jetty. I did realize I need some sort of buoy boats and ski's are flying everywhere.

Make sure that you get a dive flag or you will hear it from CG, or even the warden. I will be diving the Jetty in Brownsville tommorow, I will make sure that I take some pics to post for you guys..Make sure to take advantage of the vis up there, I hear that it doesnt get like that very often, I remember when I would complain about 10-15 foot vis down here, boy was I in the wrong, I met Don Moore and Josh White last year and they mentioned that it rarely gets clear like it does down here, I was lucky enough to dive bluewater about 10 times last year at the Jetty in brownsville, check out some pics>>>
Check out the one with my kid, the talk went some thing like this"son you see one of these you gotta automatically pull the trigger"

CG already talked to me one day while looking. I hope the weather stays calm so the sea's stay down. If so I'm going to dive Port A this weekend and see how I do.
