Interested in diving Lake Ouachita in Arkansas? I make spearfishing trips regularly and usually have room. See more info about the lake at: http://scuba.royalcs.com/ouachita

I just got back from visiting family in Arkansas, and my brother and I went spearing in Bull Shoals lake. I was skeptical about hunting in a freshwater lake after diving in the ocean for so many years. But I really had a good time. The vis in that lake is about 15-20 ft. on the bluffs and I saw a lot of different fish. Largemouth and smallmouth bass, Drums, walleye, crappie, huge flathead catfish, and of course carp and garr. We just shot a lot of catfish 'cuz all the gamefish are off limits. I guess thats what happens when pole fisherman make the rules. One thing I realized about hunting in a lake like Bull shoals is that if you don't see any fish at the moment, there isn't much else to look at. Just a rock bottom. At least in the ocean there is always something to look at.

Hey SoCal,

Our vis this year on Bull Shoals lake hasn't been as good as normal b/c of high levels. Where did you dive & find 15-20' of vis?

Just FYI, the spearing of game fish is legal in Arkansas lakes. In Bull Shoals, Beaver; Norfolk lakes Black Bass can not be speared, but everything else is legal. The southern lakes even allow Black Bass to be speared.
