anybody know the recent bottom temp and vis off key west?
is the thermocline affecting the area off key west?

Joes Tug (60') & the Cayman Salvager (90') had 3-5' of viz. I didn't feel any thermal. Seabreeze charters took us there knowing the viz sucked just to get the $$$$ and sign off a advanced student. Check with Keezdiver if it cleared up any. It would have to have a strong wash. The viz was great in key largo and pretty good in marathon. see ya!!!

sorry i couldn't get to you the tread, must have missed it last week when i checked the board.

we were off key west before mini season and the vis was clearing but still not fantastic. probably less than 20 on the inshore stuff and about 25-30 on the reef line, more in some places.

we did notice a slight drop in temp from the surface to the bottom, probably 2 degrees. we were all diving without suits, but if you were prone to chills you could easily get away with a 3mm shorty.

one spot we dove, which was about 90 feet had HORRIBLE vis below 75'...above that it was good, but once you hit the thermocline (sharper temp drop that anyplace else we dove) the vis dropped to 10' ...all milky crap floating in the cold water.

i should be off key largo this week, if anyone needs updates..but then again it's a cold day in hell when vis in largo is bad.

went off of sand key, soutwest of key west, yesterday. vis was great on top 80' probably 100' vis. below that 3' was it. Most of the nice grouper were down in the white shit where you couldn,t see them. the gulf stream has moved off shore so there is no current south of looe key.

was off key west today, there was a very slight thermocline out in deeper water. nothing too drastic.

as for the vis....IT SUCKED

the only decent vis we had was out in 50 plus feet of water, where it was 75' plus vis...but the rest of the reef, up in the shallowoer stuff was 15-20' at best
