Blasted out the inlet predawn to be greeted with pond like conditions. Ran out to our lobster honey holes that had been full earlier in the season. Top spot only held 9 bugs but a few were still holding eggs. Dead spotted eels all over. Dave B started the day with a small hog. I back dove to check conditions and bugs.
Dive 2 was 200 yards away...Water temp around 52 4-6 vis. No bugs or fish for first 100 feet of ledge.. Then managed to find some deeper undercuts that held some nice mangos and a mutton.
Dive 3 was another bug ledge that was void of fish and bugs
Dive 4 was a high profile ledge Shooter Dan had shot the 26 pound Hogfish on a few months earlier. The best part of the break was void of shoot able fish and no bugs. Moved farther up the ledge with Merk working the top and me working the bottom on a two tear type ledge.....nothing for the first 2000 pounds..then the mango's started to appear nothing real big but consistent. looked around no Merk in site...figure he was filling his stringer on a vertical break......Miss the first gag I seen all day....string a few more go's and find the gag I missed down a few feet....no missing the second time and string a nice 18 pounder.
Dive 5 was a close ledge with deep undercuts. merk and I drop..I go right he go's left.....mango heaven...no small go's all in the 8-14 pound class. Problem is vis is down to 3-4 feet. So shooting is tough, find the fish with a light them shoot close to the head as possible. If there would have been vis it would have been the slay of the year....finished the dive off with 5 go's over 10 and one 13 pounder. Merk gets a personal best 12 lb.
Dive 6....not.... Dave's to cold.....what up with the skinny guys getting so cold? Although Merk hangs tough and ready for a bounce but I have no more bottom time.....
***** After getting stopped by the local MP we now know you must have your license in possession and not just a copy of license or number. One of the crew gets a 50 dollar ticket for not having the license in possession although he did have a valid license.
