Well as most of you have heard Uwatec has recalled all Smart Com and Smart Pro computers. I am one of those unfortunate one's who own a Smart Pro Console. I have not had any problems with my computer, then again it only has 20 dives on it. I have been offered an upgrade to a Uwatec Air Z Nitrox with transmitter for an additional fee (I was told around $200). I also have been offered a down grade to a Uwatec Pro Ultra with compass and Datatrak software (at no charge). The return time on a new fixed version of the Smart Pro would be 45-90 days. Being that it is the peak of Dive season down here that would definitly put me out. I just don't know if a wrist model is worth the trouble. What do you guy's prefer wrist or console? Is the Air Z an upgrade or just a Pro Ultra with a transmitter?

I would go for the upgrade to the Air Z. If you have very good gas consumption you can extend your available bottom time quite a bit b/c it tracks your nitrogen obsorbtion closer than non-integrated computers.

Me and one of my buddies use the wrist mount Z Nitrox. we have several hundred dives on them over the last year or so and have had no problems. The transmission of air pressure is very reliable. The wrist mount is so convenient that we will never go back to a console. When spearfishing in wrecks it is nice not having the extra hose to get tangled. The only feature we wish it had was a temperature display. You can't see the temperature until you get home and download it into your PC. Camera strobes occasionally interfere with transmission on hoseless computers. I've only carried a video camera and lights since I got the Z nitrox and am not sure if it is affected.

I recently purchased the Air-Z nitrox and it is very reliable and convienent. One less hose to get in the way and you always know where it is.

Earlier this year when I was in the market to buy a new Computer, I remember how the salesman at the LDS was pushing hard for me to buy a Uwatec Smartcom Pro. I came close to buying one and thank God I didn't. What pisses me off, and should piss you guys even more since you bought a Uwatec, is that you pay a load of money for a Uwatec and are now going 90 days without a computer. Then instead of offering a free upgrade they are offering a free downgrade. Furthermore, they are going to do you the "favor" of offering an upgrade for an additional $200? Some favor. I would attempt to get my money back and go with a different company just out of general principal. I think their handling of this "situation", which is no fault of yours, will scar Uwatec for a long time.

I am sorry to hear about this guys. Sorry I had to vent.

Good News for me,

I got My new Smart Com Friday!

The really good news is, I purchased it from LP and now my new one is registered for Lifetime Warranty with the the card and registered the same as if I paid $300.00 more from an LDS. For those that are curious; the unit is shipped as if it is ready for retail sale. Complete with software, manuals, new hose, little padded cover, and warranty card. If you register it online you will not need a dealer number.

I filed for the recall the day it was annouced and sent the unit in the day the box came. Then I called to check status of the deal when I knew they received it (UPS Tracking). Eric from Uwatec said he would ship it the next day, and he did. He shipped 3 day priority.

Aside from being a bit ticked off at first the whole deal worked out to my advantage.
