7/30 Lack-o-Lob report.

Jax was bad,not the vis (15')or the temps (63 at 117' and 69 at 85')but few lobs only one non-eggbearer of 6 1/2 # for me and a slipper for the crew.Also heard of 2 lost divers and relayed our current/wind drift info to the CG's SAR helo.Cancelled tomorrow due to lack of interest.

Things not much better down here. 3 of us took 14 lobster after diving a total of 13 tanks. North, South, shallow, deep- it didn't seem to matter much. In the afternoon, it completely shut down. Water here is very warm. My computer registered 90 degrees at 40 foot. Vis was about 45 foot this morning and got down to about 30 this afternoon. Lots of suspended shit in the water and lots of weed and algae on the reef - it looks sick and probably didn't help things.

Brought my Riffe with me on the lobster dives. It was a good thing as I took and made 2 hail mary shots from about 15 feet at accelerating spooked fish and picked up a 20 pound gag and a cero mackerel. Both were meat shots, but I got the fish.

Am going back for more tomorrow, but it may turn out to be more of a hunting trip than a bug trip.

Went back out today. North current had backed off a little from yesterday, and vis improved to about 60 foot. 2 of us dove 3 tanks each to claim 8 keeper lobster total. We probably caught about 25 total, none were short but all but the 8 had eggs. Probably saw another 25 lobster that hauled ass to the back of their hole as soon as they saw the snare. Around here the lobsters are very nervous and very pregnant. Hope that they calm down before next wednesday's opener.

Shot 2 hogs today. The largest measured 24" and weighed 6 pounds. It was the 3rd largest hog that I have shot over here.

Miniseason total for my crew was 22 bugs after we dove 19 tanks. Of those I personally caught 13. Last year I caught 13 on my best dive. I think the warm water was to blame. I hope though that that means more for the regular season. We'll see.
