After a satiating day of blood lust on the high seas, few things complement the experience more than enjoying a fine adult beverage with friends as your fresh catch marinates and the smell of a mesquite fire wafts through the air (ahhh yes, is this a great country or what?).

So, search those sensory archives....what drink works best for you..... and why?

Personaly, after a day strenous pescean blood letting I prefer a lawnmower beer or a margarita, but not just any margarita... no no my friends...a margarita fit for the spearfishing god's that we are. Here is my recipe (trust me boys... I've done my research on this).

2 parts Silver Tequilla (100% blue agave only!)
1 part Contreau
1/2 part fresh key lime juice (ideally, just off the tree)
1 cup clean ice (distilled or RO if possible)
1 part = the jigger on top of your shaker

Throw all this (plus lime rinds) in shaker and shake.
Strain into a frozen martini glass.
Salt, umbrellas and cute garnishes are up to you

After two of these you better have a designated driver!

I voted beer because that is my poison of choice 90% of the time. But, on a real hot summer day after fishing, I also go for the occasional margarita. Recipe looks good. I'll give it a shot.

The AMA a number of years back was given credit for a published statement saying that the alcohol content in 2 mixed drinks would kill the hepatitis virus, if present, when eating raw oysters. Since eating cold boiled shrimp and 3-4 doz. raw oysters is my standard hot weather meal after diving I follow the AMA's advice and drink rum&coke/w-lime. ( the lime prevents scurvy) Beer works well, but requires a larger amount for same results (2nd choice).

Normally, I would just pound a beer or two on the way in, because that is convenient. However, I have sampled Larry’s famous margaritas, even picked the limes for him myself, straight off the tree here in Port A. Let me tell you, it doesn’t get any better than that. Don’t forget, key limes are the real secret, the green, not so ripe ones.

So, if it was an on the boat question, I vote for the ease of an ice cold, fish slimed (because the fish box and food cooler are to capacity) beer. However, if were are talking about a post trip drink, got to go with the Marg.

A topic I can relate to. I'll take a Miller Lite anytime, unless I had too many the night before. Have to nurse that hangover with a few Capt. and coke's.

10 1/2 years ago, I had to make the decision: Do I want to see my kids grow up, or stay ****ed up every day. I picked the first option. I'm one of those compulsive guys. ALL or nothing. When I quit, I was averaging a couple quarts of Jim Beam (BEST ****ing bourbon out there) and a few cases of Budweiser a week. No shit. Nuttin better for a guaranteed buzz, than 3 or 4 fingers of Beam on the rocks, with a cold ass Bud next to it! Next add a nice fat blount of the other bud, and you have what I called my epoxy buzz. Worked ever ****in' time. Now, I do neither, but have NO problem being around folks that do. I quit tokin' 6 months ago when I decided to get certified. All my friends still partake, I just wanted to wake up. I did enough for a lifetime, anyway. :D

For the boat ride back from a successful MG trip a bottle of Cristal with a silly straw in it works good followed by copious shots of Hennessey and Belvedere vodka. In the car (2003 Escalade 24" rims, of course) we stop for some quarts of Bull also known as the mother****ing triple deuce of that malt-lickety juice! Keeping it real on the Westside, D4B.

S.O. - No, the only shots I was taking back then, were from a bottle of J.B.. A sorry sumbiiatch I was. Barely makin' it to "work", gettin' totally ripped. "Double duece" on the way to "work", a 12 at "lunch", Katie bar the door by 4:00. Felt like shit all the time.****in' fool. I'd give anything to have those wasted days back.
