Spent a great week with the family in Key West. Got my kids in the water with snorkeling gear for the first time. The girls 13 & 10 did fine. Little brother 7 needed a little help. Don’t know if I have ever seen anything to top that kid lying on a hydroslide with his face in the water, while his sisters pushed him around.
10 year nephew shot his first hog, only to have it taken by a cuda. Same cuda tried to take one from me, but the butt of my gun to his head changed his mind.
My wife climbed on my back when I showed her a 7 foot shark sleeping on the reef. I think it was a bull shark. First time I have ever seen any shark, other than a nurse, sleeping.
I think it’s safe to say the jewfish are back. We saw one about 70 pounds in 10 feet of water at one of the most heavily dived sections of the reef.
Vis was O.K., 20-30 feet inside, 60ish on the reef.
My dumb move of the week was holding the gun too close to my face while shooting a grunt. The fat lip was worth having my 4 year old nephew catch a grunt with a mysterious head wound, and have his mother take pictures.
Total carnage – 80 bugs, 125 hogs, 9 grouper, 2 mutton snapper.
