I have a VR3 that I use for deep technical multi gas dives and would rather not use it for spearfishing under 200'
I'm looking for a liberal, two gas computer. One that can be used as a bottom timer in gauge mode too for some other diving I do.(deep cave)
I'm thinking about the Aladdin Tech 2g.
It's the round hockey puck type of computer. It does two gas nitrox.
I also have a source to get any Dive Rite products for very cheep from an authorized dealer. Any one out there using the duo?
I think I would rule out the Cochran's. I don't like how big they are(I already own a VR3) I don't like the hands free gas switching, If you can switch regulators, You should be able to press a button on your computer
I have a Vytech with the high pressure sender deal, And I only use it in gauge mode because it's too conservative. I spent $1000 for that POS :(
Well, It is a very nice computer, But it's just not working out for what I'm doing.
So any input would be appreciated.

Look around for an older bend o matic. They were marketed under several names. you would have to look through some older posts here namely from chad carney to get the names. They get snaped up pretty quick so...I think the deco hunters like them.
I beleive Benemec was the original name.
this should get ya started.

New model http://www.benemec.fi/prolog/ probably to liberal to be marketed in this country

Thanks, I just posted a WTB on a Tech divers forum.

You might also check out the multi gas Oceanic Atom. Oceanics are much more liberal than the Suuntos. I have a Vytec and my single gas Oceanic Veo 250 always beats the Vytech by a considerable margin even when the Vytec is set to 50% RGBM. From what I hear, the atoms might be more durable than Oceanic's hockey puck style computers. See http://www.spearboard.com/forum/showthread.php?t=30118. My understanding is that the Dive Rites are rather conservative. That certainly was the case last weekend when I was diving with Mobile Dive who was using the Nitek HE. I would be just into the "yellow zone", and he would have a few minutes of deco.

I emailed Polar tech. to see if its built (OEM) and sold here. I need another new computer too. Dive rite markets it overseas & it looks nothing like what they sell here.

I would wait and see Cochran's next round (possibly at DEMA). They are working on some good stuff. Also, the hands free gas switching on the Gemini air integrated unit is not a big deal. I love it because it is flawless and super accurate. As soon as you stop breathing your primary gas, it switches to your second gas and if you switch back to primary for any reason that is factored into the algorythm. Their excellent algorythm also factors in all sorts of environmental considerations like water temp and will get you out of the water faster and just as safe as anything I know. I am a firm believer and prove it again and again every weekend with dives to 210 on air and a switch to 80% oxygen. Get the three gas beause you can then add a travel gas if you like.

Being more conservative is not a bad thing, especially the way spearo's bounce. I use the Nitek He for shooting because the stops are high (no deep stops) and it can account for a light helium mix. I use the VR for deep. Jim J

Thanks Tony, I think I'll check them out a DEMA
I already have a VR3 though. It's a ten gas computer.
I'm looking for a cheap one that I can beat the crap out of :D

I agree, but Grim Reefer said that he was looking for a liberal multigas computer.

Even in 2 gas mode I'd bet an air EDGE or Skinnydipper would clear 1st after dive 2.I dove an Oceanic Veo 200 VS an EDGE for the last 2 years to compare. At 120' the EDGE will get you out faster after dive 1 over 1/2 the time.At 140' the first dive is equal and progressively more in favor of the EDGE as the dives rack up.This was with the Oceanic set for the 02 mixture and of course the Edge is air.You do have to keep track of your MOD.

I'll second that. I dove the Edge (air computer) side by side with the Sherwood Wisdom and they were usually within 2 minutes of each other. The deeper you go the more conservative the Edge got IMO. I just got an Edge off Ebay for 100$. Is that cheap enough for you? If you plan on using it for diving less than 160 fsw, it's a realistic option. Cheap too.
If you're really stuck on totally tracking every single little tidbit of your nitrogen loading, then go ahead and drop the 300+ for one of the Hockey pucks. Dive Rite Duo or Cressi Archimedes should suit you fine for what you want to do. They are both in the less than 400$ price range and since you said you wanted something cheap that you could beat the crap out of, that sounds like a good fit.

Thanks guys for the great input.
I got a dive rite nitek 1 last week for $175. It was brand new, But they quit making them a while ago. a guy had 20 of them.
I think I'm gonna like it. I did 10 deep dives this week and cleared faster than my Vr3 every time I got into deco. If I told the Vr3 I was breathing 50% on my ascent, I'm sure that would have kept it pretty close, But I'd rather not have that $1400 brick on my arm while wrestling monster grouper
I'll see what the nitek does this weekend in the eagles nest @ 300' for 30 min. Just for fun :D

Man, anyone who dives as deep as you (for fun) AND cave dives has got some big balls.... I used to do caves on top, never have dove one though... I can only imagine if they are anything like the caves I used to explore, but filled with water...

The Nitek said I had 186 minutes of deco and locked out :D
The new dry suit was awesome! Talk about a crash course in dry suit diving
It was my first real dive in it. New wing too. Stayed completely dry but got a little cold. 15/45 back gas doesn't make for good suit inflation.
I guess I'll have to do it again wednesday
