The Baton Rouge based Git 'Em Spearfishing Club had a blast at last weekends Terrebonne Sportsmans League Rodeo in Houma, LA. We dove for 3 days aboard the Heavy Metal, a 35' custom aluminum diving machine (see story on Fishsticker's 111.8 lb AJ).
We won Best Club and Boat, as well as King Spearfisherman (yours truly). Other clubs diving included Lick'em and Stick'em from Houma and the Hell Divers from New Orleans. Special thanks to L&S for setting up all the awards.
Some of the highlights of the trip were a 131 lb shark, a 117 lb ray, a 44 lb jack crevelle, a 9.8lb trigger, a 40 lb warsaw, all the 20lb red snapper you could stand, and a pair of 9lb lobsters. Also shot my first yellowedge grouper (22lbs). The first night's dinner was grilled warsaw and lobster tails! Everything was shot on rigs in 100-300 ft of water, one diver even saw a sailfish outside the platform.
