Santa Cruz Island

Unfortunatley the nor cal thing did not work out for weather and swell reasons, but we have decided to go out to santa cruz island with kayaks and what not, we leave tomorrow at 9 and we come back monday at 4, i will report then see you all later

This is a good time of the year to find some big halibut..watch for squid on the bottom over the sand...that is the spot to work...

nice thanx for the advice i'll have my kayak some plastics and some squid too, plus right by were we are staying it is very sandy and nice for halibut i haven't actually seen one yet but i really want to shoot one, i've caught them on pole and line, i'll let all uknow how it goes wen i get back

I've never been able to tell squid from normal bait balls. How do you tell?

On your sounder they will mark as sparse blue marks near the bottom, often over sand in 15-20 fm. Generally during the day they stick close to the bottom, but not always.
