looking at a boat with an old evinrude 150 motor on it. motor is something like a 1990 version

mechanic said they compresion checked it and all cylinders (6) were within 10psi of each other

is that good or bad??

and does any one know what a new Continental aluminum trailer costs? big enough for a 20' boat? single axle with no brakes?

thanks

10 psi is good.

By Law the boat trailer will require brakes on it, if it has a GVWR of 3500 lbs or more, from what I understand, this law is heavily enforced in the Keys.

spent about 1500 on trailer w/ disc brakes and the all stainless hardware option. tax included. boat is about 2800# 20 fter. ten percent diff is reasonable .

Jeff, I have the 1990 Evinrude manual and can copy the pages you need if you get it. They are supposed to be within 10% and less than 10 Lbs PSI difference is less than 10% so you are fine as bgbill said. I think 120 lbs psi is what the warm, oiled cylinder pressure is supposed to be off the top of my head. Havent cracked that book open for a while though. Electrics and wiring can go bad even if it has little use. Oh by the way I got a new hydraulic helm, the leak wouldnt stop and just replaced it. Have a mech pressure test the lower unit, and all other systems. Look at the wheel bearings and axles too when you get a trailer. And brakes if that is an option- they usually rust out or fall apart before they wear out. If not get a flusher tubing, cheap insurance that the expensive brakes will last a little longer. And get a grease gun and grease often. Spray everything with corrosion blocker-engine, wheels, brakes, axle etc. You should be able to find a trailer for a good deal in the keys.
