cool thread, i will jump all over this one. I traded my 17 foot flats boat for this bad ass 23 ft center console openfisherman. First pic is me and my fiance picking up our new boat, then we got her home. Next we got her a name and finally some well needed shade. Now I need to get the beast bloody!!

yes, she has a mercruiser 305 which puts out about 230 horses. Currently figuring out if I want to keep the older furuno electronics which are working fine.

J,
I bought the trailer and the boat was thrown in for free...if you know what I mean. I will try and find some before pic's and post them. What was left of the floor/stringer system I removed with a gas chainsaw..no really...this a very handy boat working tool when used properly.! So I am not sure what the boat had for stringers originaly. I have been offered the molds for this hull to use if anybody wants a new one.! ;)

I realized I don't have very many pics of my boat, but since you insist, here's what I could scrounge up, not many are recent. It's a 1984 Farallon, which probably don't appear anywhere but the west coast. I really like the lines on it. 25' with 8' beam, I think deadrise is 21 deg constant, fuel is 205 gallons of diesel. 65 gallon bait tank, big insulated fish hold, presently electronics are 2 Standard Horizon VHF radios, Magellan DGPS plotter, Furuno DGPS 10" plotter and 4 kw radar, FCV 582 sounder.

I'm with you Jason. It can be pretty toasty in there when the weather is warm. When it is chilly or wet with wind, it's nice to have though.
Johnny that trailer was a west coast trailer, and now I have an aluminum triple axle we got from Florida about 4 years ago. It does not have the side bunks, which I'd like to add, since in situations forcing me to drive the boat on I could really use them. Those pipe guide-ons are almost worthless with a heavy boat that doesn't maneuver well at trailering speed.

Are the "side bunks" a west coast thing?
I can give you one answer from someone who has lived on both coasts.
When I lived in NC before moving out here, all the trailers, including mine, were tilt-bed things that only required you to back down until the trailer wheels were at the edge of the water and then cut the boat loose. I never even got the trailer wet. I forget the brand of my last one, but it had 48 floppy rollers and everything pivoted on something else, and I had to make sure that there was water behind the boat before I released the winch. To get it back on, I stood there and held the switch on the power winch. Of course no side bunks were necessary with that system.
There was a reason for the preference for those trailers. The ramps were not paved very far out into the water, and if you backed the trailer in, the wheels fell off the edge of the concrete and you were in deep shit trying to pull it out. I saw a few guys do that.
When I got out here, I noticed that everyone had a trailer that they backed completely into the water and then drove the boat off. And when they came back, they backed the trailer in and drove on. The ramps were paved far enough out to permit this sort of thing.
For four years until I traded boats, I did it the East Coast way, figuring that there was no use dunking my trailer and wheel bearings when I didn't have to. But the problem was that I didn't fit in with everyone else. It took a while for the power winch to pull the 23' SeaCraft onto that trailer, and guys besides me were backing in, driving the boat on, and pulling out while I was still there operating the winch. And they were beating me to the wash racks. So when I got a new boat, I went with the flow and got a trailer like everyone else. And since the trailer is completely submerged as you try to drive the boat on, you do need the side bunks to get you centered over it, particularly in a cross wind.

Hey, Slay Ride, thanks for completely destroying my self esteem. I was already having trouble with some of the other boats here, and you had to drive that final stake in. Very very nice ride.
On the subject of Bertrams, the boat in my avatar is a converted Bertram 20 moppie from the mid sixties. It's unbelievable how much crap we can put in that boat and it still flies. It's got the most deadrise I've seen in a boat that small, and it's still pretty stable. Tows well too. Maybe we can get the owner to give us the straight scoop. He's a lurker.

Wonderboy did a good job of showing the whole reason why I want to be a doctor. ;)
I try to feel better by reminding myself that if I had a bigger boat I'd spend most of the time sitting in it at the slip, because I wouldn't be able to foot the fuel bill without a lot more friends. If we tried hard we might be able to have a good time drinking beer in the harbor though.
For my purposes, that 36' Bert would make a fine compromise!

31' Bert...that's where it's at so far as offshore capable versus able to afford to go out w/out a trust fund...my neighbor has one and she's a beaut and she's powered by twin CAT's which sip the fuel.
Stringer Bell...if that were a pilot house and a few feet longer, I'm pretty sure you'd have my idea of a dream boat.

You could start a whole thread just on "classic Bertrams"! The 31 is a true classic (and cost more now than they did new,) but so are the 26', 28', the 38' Special, the early 54's.... One of my all time favorites is the 33' sport fish (we have had 2), rocked something terrible at anchor, but I would go out in any conditions in one (and have), they had over twice the cockpit space of our current 30' moppie or even the 36' moppie, thing was a beast.
Great thing about the 30 and 36 moppie is the ride, one of the nicest “all condition” riding hulls Bertram ever made.
One thing about Bertrams, they hold their value. Between my family and myself we have owned 2 26's, a 28, 2 33's and now the 30' moppie, Bertrams are addictive.

You don't need a trust fund to run the 50. You just need to take out a buncha guys and everyone has to put up a little more than they would for a center console. But look at the ameneties you get out of it. I've talked to people who can go to the grounds on a center console for like $80-100 but where do you sleep? Wedged b/w the console and the gunnel. So yeah, you may have to cough up a little more to go out with me, but you get a full bed, hot water shower, tons of space, comfort, and all that goes along with it. Just some food for thought...

We don't overnight too often up here...occasionally folks run to the canyons and fish for a few days...up here folks have really big boats because they have really big wallets and want people to know it. Overnight diving isn't really necessary since runs of 30-40 miles would be absolutely maximum distance (at least in my area).
I'd love the heck out of a big sportfish, but I don't need one...not even close. I'm not knocking your (or your parent's) boat or the fact that you own it. Down there things are probably different, and heck even if you did own it just to show off, who cares...it's your boat and your money, I'm not one to say you shouldn't or can't.

I wish we only had to go 30-40 miles offshore at most! Out of Clearwater that puts us in what, 100 feet of water? Maybe not even in some places...
Bertrams are great boats. Just a week or two ago, I had her out in 4-6. We were turning about 2000 rpms and doing about 20 knots and my can of pepsi was sitting on the helm not moving. It may not be the fastest thing in the world, but you find me a center console that'll do that and NOT put you in the chiropractor's office the next day...

A bit of history on this hull. The design is over 20 years old and was used EXCLUSIVELY by the commercial fisherman. The finish is PATHETIC, but the sea-worthiness is un-surpassed!! I've fished off a 24'er commerially. The skipper would continue loading the boat with fish until water started entering your gum-boots!!! Then you know the boat is loaded!!  Since the whole area under the deck is foam filled, the boat is UNSINKABLE.
Some sad news is that in the last week, i saw TWO boats sink!! One was a 45' cat which belongs to a friend and the other a 30' Mono hull. Sea simply smashed a hole in the hull of the 45'er and it sank.........

Nice Mako, are you running a single outboard?
Yea, 250 johnson
It could use more power but I already had the motor and trailer when I ran across the hull. I'll run it to it quits and then go with a single 300 or twins. With a normal fishing load it runs about 36mph wide open and cruises at 26mph and 1.8mpg. I've got a kicker and seatow for insurance.

Those aren't bad numbers for a single, especially on that hull.
I bet Yola likes using his boat as much, or more, than anybody else on this thread likes using theirs... that is pretty sweet!

Hey ! Thats a nice pick up truck !
My GMC Sierra Z-71 is getting old ! And I have been looking that new Titan. Your rig is pretty hevy, say 4,600 lb ? How does the Titan moves it? [SIZE=7]
The titan is a beast, I love it. With the big tow package the rating is for around 9000 pounds. When you test drive it put it to the floor, You won't want to look at any other truck after that.

Well, the title of the thread was to "show off your boats" :)
Try any of the cats...I'm selling my 42 Bertram for an upgrade to a cat...or maybe a slight downgrade...

Hey JGrant -
Nice Radon... I used to fish commercially out the same boat in the late '80s. We had a hardtop w/ canvas enclosures - made it a different boat at anchor. That fish hold is HUGE.

thanks Barley...
fish hold is huge, can lay down inside of it! it's nice to put coolers and all dive gear inside and keep the deck 90% clear.
I've had it less than a year but am totally stoked on it.

Barley,
yeah, that's the same boat. I paid 25K for it then took it straight to Don Radon. He removed the tower, two bait tanks, two giant marine batteries in the cuddy and rigged the electronics...it lost about 500# of weight I didn't need. I've put about 32K into it all together. It's lighter, faster and more efficient now. in December it was running in SM bay 27 kts at 3200 rpms averaging 4mpg on a 94' Volvo Penta 5.7L Gi with Duoprop 280 outdrive.
very stoked.
